Hall Of Fame question

I was going to ask this in the Johnny Damon thread but decide to start a new thread instead. If an Admin thinks this should go in the other thread, please feel free to move it over there.

With newspapers becoming less and less profitable and more either merging or going out of business and the content going online, what happens to the BBWA (or however the initials go for the writers who vote on and elect the players to the HOF)?

If there are few or no newspapers, the content is online and there are a reduced number of baseball writers, what does that do for the voting?

Personally, if the number of writers decreases to a point where there is no HOF voting, I would be happy with a group of baseball historians and experts going in and starting the HOF over and weeding out players who aren't really deserving and making a TRUE Hall of FAME.

You think Hall of Famers are going to be very happy about this?

If your scenario were to come true, the baseball writers would still be writing -- online.
The HOF knows its selection process has been flawed over the years, but there is absolutely no way they are tossing everyone out and starting over from scratch.
Now we just have to find a way to get Gil Hodges and Ron Santo in.

There will always be baseball writers. And they have already established a way of distinguishing the truly deserving from the less deserving hall of famers: the former are elected by the writers, while the latter are enshrined by the veterans' committee. I wouldn't mind it if they separated the plaques of those who were elected by the writers from those who were elected by the veterans' committee. But no one is going to boot out anybody, unless it is shown that the player "threw" games, took steroids, and encouraged children to chew tobacco.

Not so sure about that. I've listened to several writers lately on why they voted as they did, and to tell you the truth, they should probably have the vote taken away from them.

It's not foolproof, but compare the lists. If you want to find a hierarchy, look there.
