1952 topps gray back pricing
 

Can anyone offer advice on valuing '52 gray backs? I'm keen to buy a few, and some have come up on ebay in recent days. It's so hard to reckon prices on these because on the one hand they're more often than not pretty low grade, but they are so rare that condition concerns kinda get thrown out the window. Some are so scarce that there isn't even pricing data for some grades.

What's a good ballpark figure to pay for an average gray back?

The recent REA auction had an (almost) complete set, missing only the Reiser. It appeared to be "average"--perhaps an average of PSA 3. It sold for $42,000 with buyer's premium. The lucky winner paid about $712/card for 59 cards.

Thanks! I was aware of the auction, but couldn't find the final result. That was pretty spectacular. I wonder what it would sold for if the Reiser was there? On its own I imagine that card would fetch a pretty penny.
