HOF collectors whats your White Whale?
HOF collectors..what is your white whale? (An autograph that is #1 on your want list)

I honestly don't know, probably Cobb signed T206 or T205

Mine is Ruth. For many on this site dropping $3500 for a Ruth is not a big deal, but for me it will be a long time of saving!
And Bob Feller. That one has eluded me for years. |
Just got mine!

Greg, that is incredible. I would be soooooo excited if that was coming home with me. Congrats.
Congrats to you as well Joey. Nice Aaron. My ultimate white whale would be a Gehrig check or similar. |
I've got a couple white whales on my wantlist, a George Gipp signed photo and an immaculate Ty Cobb single signed baseball from his playing days with bold stampings on an OAL ball.
|
Mike,
You silly golden domer. You sure you don't want a Rockne Gipp photo dual signed? |
I got two. A signed 1957 Clemente and the other is a signed Earl Averill Zeenut / PCL postcard. In the non HOF white whale category it would be a M116 Harry T Smith (distant relative)
|
Whoops, double post, sorry

Mike,
That must've been pretty sweet to be around all that cool history. |

That's an easy one for me:
Addie Joss signed cut or document. |

Got mine a couple months ago too!

That is a sweet Mathewson letter there Greg. Mathewson is certainly my Grail.
|
While it's great to see the cool items people have obtained, I think, by definition, a white whale is something you are obsessed with that is unobtainable. If you got it, it is not a white whale. :)
|
Would have to be a Joe Jackson autograph or Mathewson Check for me. Cannot afford either but one han have dreams:)

I'm changing mine.
I have 2 one group and one solo. 1) Completing my signed 1934 goudey set. I think most can be found, but there are a couple I am not so sure exist and the 2 Gehrigs may be cost prohibitive. 2) As a single item, my white whale is a Lou Gehrig day ticket signed by Gehrig. |
a signed Ruth Exhibit card.
|
Signed 1969 topps Roberto Clemente , have never seen one signed on front
|
A 1941 Play Ball Ted Williams with a signature from around that time. I've seen signed Play Ball Williamses, but they were signed much later in life.
|
An unsigned picture of Bob Feller.
|
Nice one!
|
Does anybody on here own a josh gibson autograph?

Picked up one of mine recently as well. I've always wanted a Cy Young, but I didn't want just another cut and am not particularly interested in letters. I wanted a card. Since I could never afford a true playing days card signed by him, this was the next best thing:

Easily Addie Joss...As far as the "Presidential HOF", Jefferson and Washington are there...

Personally, I think it's crazy how some can drop thousands on a signature. I've come to the conclusion that I'm willing to purchase badly faded signatures for much less. I bought a Ruth on a team ball that is probably a 1 or 2 out of 10....it's badly faded, but it's there. And it only cost me about a grand. I can live with that. By the way, my white whale would be a signed ball (team or single) of Cy Young.....hard to find and authenticate those. |

I'd like a signed Billy Southworth on a baseball card. Shouldn't be that hard but haven't been able to get one
|
Frank Grant :p
So impossible not even roaches corner can make one :D |
It's not the most expensive of the gold HOF plaque postcards but I'd be ecstatic to get a Sam Crawford one of these days.
|
Another one I'd love to get is Joe Louis on an Exhibit card.
