need a little advice about grading crossovers

I've got two cards that I'm thinking about doing crossovers with. One of them I own, and one of them I'm considering picking up.

The first one is my SGC 86/7.5 NM+ 1956 Topps Mantle. The second is a 1949 Bowman Bob Feller GAI 8.5 NM-MT+

So my question is simply this...if I send both of these to PSA as crossovers, what level of expectation can I reasonably have that they will cross over with the same grade?

I would expect that PSA would be more critical in their examinations than GAI was, so there is a possibility the grade could go down slightly. However, I'd rather have a PSA graded card if I were ever considering it's resale value.

As for SGC, I've read that they tend to be more forgiving when it comes to centering. If the card is off center, the grade might go down somewhat when PSA slabs the card.

Let us know what grades you get back. Good luck!

I've had pretty good luck in the past crossing SGC cards over to PSA and getting higher grades. I had a SGC 40 1952 Topps Mantle that actually got bumped to a PSA 4 which was a pleasant surprise to say the least.

The SGC crossover should be fairly close as long as its not way off center as stated earlier.

It's a roll of the dice with GAI. Best case scenario is you drop 1-2 grades. Worst case scenario it comes back trimmed. But you are doing the right thing in getting it out of that holder. Best to know than not know.

Good luck and let us know.

here's the '56 Mantle SGC that I am planning to send for crossover so you guys can look at it and tell me what you think :)

the GAI card I don't really know what to expect, but the price that I'm getting it for is in line with what a PSA 7 would probably bring, so if it ends up taking a hit I still won't be out too much and if it DOES come back and 8 or 8.5, then so much the better!

Barring anything that can't be detected on the scan, I would grade the Mantle PSA 7, so you should be OK. Centering is within the guidelines. Slightly soft bottom left corner probably holds it back from grading higher.

Good luck with GAI. If you are buying it at a PSA 7 price you are OK as long as the card hasn't been trimmed. I've only been knocked down a few grades when crossing GAI to PSA, but many board members have had their cards returned to them as trimmed - especially if they were in the later model GAI holders.

I would echo what everyone else is saying. I've had cards cross from SGC to PSA no problem, but I think there's always a big red flag with GAI when PSA/SGC look at them. Your best shot is to crack out the Feller and send it in raw, but you're risking the Auth grade. Are you into the Feller for a bunch? Good luck
