Hake’s Americana & Collectibles Auction #211 Now Online And Open For Bidding at www.hakes.com.

The auction closes March 18-20, 2014. In addition to baseball items, there are vintage collectibles in over 200 collecting categories, with a total of 2,870 items up for bid.

Hake's has been the premier source for Pop Culture and Americana since 1967 and in recent years has offered some of the rarest and most sought after baseball items including those pertaining to the Cuban and Negro Leagues, with many coming from the legendary Richard Merkin Collection.

Merkin Collection highlights this auction include: Josh Gibson Homestead Grays news service photo, Alejandro Oms signed document, 1890s Cuban baseball team cabinet photo, Havana Lions & Almendares Scorpions 1932 team photos, 1937 Dominican Republic team photo with Satchel Paige, 1937 Dominican Republic broadside & score cards, 1946-47 “Sporting Kings” Cuban card album, and more.

Other highlights include:

1923-1924 Tomas Gutierrez complete card set featuring Pop Lloyd, Oscar Charleston, Cristobal Torriente and more. This set is SGC-graded and the only such set to come up for auction.

Babe Ruth Boston Red Sox Gifted Sterling Silver Cigarette Case.

1940 Homestead Grays championship year team photo with Buck Leonard/Jud Wilson/Raymond Brown.

1923-1924 Nacionales Alejandro Oms rookie card.

Lefty Gomez c. 1941 presented Superman art by creator Joe Shuster.

Effa Manley Newark Eagles NSP.

Cuban Players Federation RPPC with Ray Dandridge.

1928 Sociedade Industrial Babe Ruth card SGC 50 VG/EX 4.

Original prototype sign art for Kellogg’s rings including Babe Ruth.

Autographs for: Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Alejandro Oms and others.

1937 New York Giants NL Champs presentation bat.

Willard Mullin Brooklyn Bum original art.

A selection of vintage small collectibles including buttons and such for: Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Rabbit Maranville, Luke Easter, Jackie Robinson, Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle and more.

This is just a sampling of the baseball material offered in this auction.

For the non-sport collector, there are many choices including sets, boxes, promotional material, premium issues, etc. Of special note is a complete SGC-graded Mickey Mouse With The Movie Stars gum card set, among the nicest and rarest of all non-sport cards (as well as a rarely seen store sign and promotional photo for this set).

Really? Isn't it Richard Merkin? If so, i find it hard to believe that he's keeping a nicer set since he left this world about 5 years ago!!
