How were the Jumbo Gypsy Queen Cards issued?

Posted By: Jay Miller
As far as I know, no one knows. My guess is that they were some form of premium, but no one has seen anything describing how someone went about getting them. They are very rare. I think the estimate is that 25 or less are known so if they are premiums they were not widely distributed. They also could have been samples that store owners could see or display to attract customers for the cigarettes. I have seen a few Old Judge actress cards that were the same size as the large Gypsy Queens and the same question as to method of distribution also pertains to them.

Posted By: Jim Parks
I believe that these are about the same size as Four Base Hits and Kalamazoo Bats which I have always assumed came with their advertised product. While they could also be premiums, I think that they were just issued along with a "giant size" edition of their tobacco or cigarettes. It seems to me as though most premiums from 1880 to 1915 were much larger in size.

Only a guess.
