Black Lenox, brown Lenox

I have two Lenox cards -- one is black, though faded, the other appears to me, in comparison, to be brown. It would, of course, be to my advantage if it were, but no on-line scans I can find (e.g. T206 Museum, archived files from this site), show the difference clearly enough for me to be certain.

Took a random sampling at Thanksgiving (before the wine began to flow). Asked only if the two backs seemed to be the same color, and if so, what the color was. If they seemed different, I asked what two colors were represented. Three of my family thought I was talking about the paper and not the printing, one said red and green ("No wine for YOU!"), and the remainder had another answer. Scientific conclusion: Never ask your relatives (or, more properly, MY relatives) anything, especially when the promise of drink is involved.

I can't show scans, because my scanner keeps adding colors that aren't there. So, where do I go to get the answer to my question?

First convincing answer wins a vat of Aunt Edna's Wine and Sparkle Bright Cleaning Fluid. Same vat, different fluids. Hard to distinguish.

Thanks in advance for any help.

About Aunt Edna's wine .....

I also have a black and brown Lenox in my back collection, but I'm also a computer, and scanner challenged dummy. :(

If you have a brown Hindu back, the best that I can suggest is to compare it to what you feel is the brown Lenox back.
Bob, I hope that helps.

I have a Hannifan T206 with an Old Mill black back.I bought an Ike Rockenfeld T206 with an Old Mill back(southern league),and when I got it,I compared the two backs-the Hannifan was no doubt black, but the other appeared to be brown.I checked with Trey at T206.org,he said it was a black back, faded.I also saw some brown Hindu's around the same time, and he was right. The brown backs are a light brown. Some faded black ones can fool you. Here are images of both backs, the first is the Hannifan regular Old Mill....

I think the rule of thumb with brown Lenox or Old Mill is that if you are not sure, then it is definitely NOT brown. The brown examples are unmistakable. It is tempting to wonder if those faded black ones are brown, but they are not. But keep hope alive.

P.S. If anybody wants to sell me or trade to me their brown old mill or lenox, drop me a line.

The brown Lenox that I have seen are a much darker brown than Hindu brown.
The brown Old Mill is closer to Hindu brown.

if you look close at the Lake next to Amer. the letters DET. are visable-someone tried to remove DET.-this happened before I owned the card and the card was in the holder when I bought it.

This card is about the same condition as the Oldring Lenox except the DET.
