New custom project

So over the last month or so I made 50 first year cards of Hall of Famers who didn't have a card in the actual first year they played. So now I figure I have to go the other way and shoot for 50 Hall of Famers who didn't have a card in the year after they played their last game. 11 down, 39 to go... Or 10 down, 40 to go seeing how Munson isn't in the HOF.

Neat! I'm curious...it seems like, based on your excellent choices there, that a number of guys didn't have a card after their last year played. Has that changed more recently? When a guy retires, do they have a card in the following year's set as some sort of way to complete their record, or to provide collectors with a card that has their final stats? I'm not talking about special sets, or one-offs, but just the regular Topps set. It's a question I hadn't thought much about until seeing these cards.

Really well done. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't even got to the really good players yet. Frank Robinson, Bob Feller, Ernie Banks, Willie Mays among others.. I think the most common denominator is that they were all pretty terrible players at that point and barely even saw the field. Back then I guess nostalgia wasn't enough to get you a card in the set.

When you get to the really good guys make sure to post pics of them also.:) The cards in the first post look very nice.

So cool! Am I missing your 1994 Carlton Fisk? EDIT: I see that you were only going to do 50, so I guess Pudge didn't make the cut. Too bad, though the 1994 Topps set was pretty hideous. Again, these cards are amazing.

There it is!! I love it. Thanks for indulging me (and hitting your true HOF 50).

Those look really good.

With the Hall of Fame inductions having just passed, they caused me to revisit this slightly. I was very surprised how many of these guys don't get a legitimate last year card. So, here are seventeen more plus a first year Vlad.

So cool. Amazing that Pedro didn't get a final card...he even started a World Series game in his last year.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Whatever it is, 700-800 cards in the set year to year and you can't find room for these guys? But I guess it's a double edged sword. Tom Glavine had 20 or so cards. Do you make one to commemorate his final season where he went 2-4 or do you give a guy a card which might be the only one he ever gets?
