Somebody roll in a wheelbarrow full of crispy bacon, because I am ready to party!!! After seemingly 100 years, my 1967 Topps set is now complete. Sure, I need a ton of upgrades, but it's officially done!!!!!!

I finally pick up a wickedly HTF Rocky Colavito #580 high number. And the centering is pretty frickin' exceptional for this card, too...

Great cards guys, and congrats on finishing your set, JollyElm. :)

The most I ever spent on a card I absolutely don't need for any of my hobby goals. Still, it was calling my name pretty hard when I ran across it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4d176452c7.jpg

Geez, in starting this thread I feel like I'm the opening act for The Rollings Stones. I come out and play my minor hit and BOOM!!!!!!!! Mick and Keith take the stage and bring the house down. Damn, sweet cards, guys.

Nice Jackie Robinson Rookie. That is an older holder. I would send that in for review. It looks like it should at least get a half grade bump, if not a full grade (although PSA probably wouldn't bump to a 5 for us "normal" guys).

Congrats Darren on picking up that very nice Colavito to complete your 1967 Topps set! As we used to say at old Tiger Stadium in the early 60s — “Don’t knock the Rock!”

Love the 67 Swoboda. I was lucky enough to drive Ron to and from Laguardia Airport in August. He is a NICE guy. Really enjoyed talking baseball with him. Funny.. I am a Brooks Robinson collector and Ron made that amazing catch in 69 WS to put Brooks out !

I also found out we grew up about 10 miles apart in Baltimore.

Tech trouble... disregard until I can get the pic loaded... grabbed a 1960 Yaz though, nicely centered and one of those cards I just always liked and wanted... even as a Yankees fan!

And I've officially become just like my sainted grandmother searching for serious bargains, picking up this very high grade 1961 'Say Hey Kid' with incredible centering but a touch of snow, giving it a 'PD' designation, at a fraction of the cost...

Am preparing myself for the possibility of disappointment when I head to the grading booth at the Chicago show in a couple weeks. Still, I decided to roll the dice with a refund being my worst case scenario. Front looks great to me. Back makes me a bit uneasy. Happy to hear your thoughts.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6d4ca8f98a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8ece945b36.jpg

Thanks, Neal. I worried the bio portion on Ted's achievements looked a slightly different color (bluer?) than the rest of the text. Would love to be wrong!

A tough card for my 52 Topps collection.

Spider wrinkle lower left that is more pronounced in the scan but it was at a price I couldn't refuse.

Darren that's a beauty! That issue is tough to find nice centered examples.

Nice. I'm also doing the '67 set. My Colavito (raw) was probably in the EX range, but way, wayy OC top to bottom - like 97/3 or something. I eventually sold it figured I'd pickup a better centered one later. You are right it's tough to find that card well-centered at all. I still sold mine for more than I paid for it because '67 highs - and particularly that card - seem to sell like hotcakes.

What's strange about it, Lou, is that the photograph is an optical illusion. We all know that Bunning was always a thin man on the mound, but because of the billowing shirt and the stands in the background sorta morphing into his waist area, he truly appears to be an overweight middle aged man!!

Was out of town on business this week, and found a cool little card shop there. The guy gave me some very reasonable prices. The Mantle is really freaking nice, sharper corners than this pic reveals. The Aaron and Williams are a bit rough surface wise, but no wrinkles and nice color on both, and the price was right.

When I was a kid, I was waiting in line at a card show to get Alan Trammell's autograph, and Dave Winfield walked by me. He literally brushed me aside to cut across the line, and I just looked up and stared. To this day, I have never seen such a huge and impressive man. He was like a Greek god. I'll never forget that, and it's cool to finally have his rookie card.

For some reason, off centered cards from 1968 don't really bother me nearly as much as cards from other years. Maybe the burlap creates an optical illusion, making it stand out less to the eye? I dunno, perhaps I'm alone in that regard. And what doesn't bother me in any way, shape or form is the fact I grabbed this Mantle (not off of ebay) for much less than what straight 6's sell for...

Very nice. I would be super happy with that for the price of a 6. In recent years, I've moved more into the camp of "can live with OC" if other attributes of the card are sharp. The lower the grade card I scope out, I want the centering to be better. But increasingly if I'm looking for a card with nice coloring and registration without creases, I'm more lenient on centering for some reason than I ever used to be. You are right, there are deals to be had like that out there.

Some adds from the last month.
- Matlack is a slight upgrade for my set over the raw one it replaced
- Castiglione fills a hole in my 52T low set. Down to needing 20 to finish that one.
- Mays was from the recent 15% eBay coupon.

Picked-up this bucket list card for around $100 under VCP, thanks to last week’s eBay coupon and a seller willing to negotiate. The corners are more like 6 quality; guessing the 5 is due to a very light and hard-to-spot wrinkle on the back only. Very pleased. [emoji4]

Thanks. It's been quite a while since I spent this much on a single card regardless, but it was the first time I was able to pull off an eBay coupon for a large (well, large for me...) amount. I didn't start out the day on eBay looking for this card, but after I found it and negotiated with the seller - I knew I'd never have a chance to pick up one this nice for an equivalent low price again. I've wanted this card for decades...always assumed if I ever got it I would have to settle for like a 2 or something. Needless to say, today was a great mailday! :o:p

Thanks Dave. Like jchcollins with that sweet 53T Paige, I wasn't targeting the Spahn but came across it while searching for something else. It was just too nice to pass up so I pulled the trigger. Pleased as punch with that pickup.

Like with John, that 15% off ebay coupon came at just the right time, allowing me to land this sweetly centered Mick at a nice discount. The listing had something like 20 watchers on it, so when the other thread alerted us to the fact the discount was coming, I strategically hit 'buy it now' and waited until the next day (when the coupon went live) to pay for the card. Someone else would have snapped it up immediately.

I know that feeling. I had to send a note to the seller to please decide if he was going to accept my offer before Wednesday evening was over so I could use that coupon...
