Nice cards fellas.
Ted, I read some of your prior posts and know that you're a longtime collector. Did you pull those two from packs or pick them up later? John, Love the Bednarik. I'm hoping to get my mitts on one of those someday. |
Great cards, guys! Here's a few more.

I guess Scott beat me to it, but here are the only two Leaf's I got.
They are from my Sammy Baugh card run from 1938-1955.:D http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=19579http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=19590 |

George McAfee was 11 when the Ironton Tanks disbanded, but he remembered watching them play as a kid. He went on to become a football star at Ironton High School, Duke, and the Chicago Bears. (And I never found any evidence his nickname was Gorgeous George - I think Leaf made it up.)

This is my favorite, so far.

TTM Mailday – Charley Trippi I have a few more of these, but not much. I've just gotten more into vintage in the last year. Selling off most of my modern and pretty much just picking up the oldies! |

Hey Mike Very nice Sammy Baugh LEAF's. Maybe I can persuade you to part with one :) Am I going to see you at the National next month ? TED Z . |

Hi Scott The 1949 LEAF Johnny Lujack may be an "olde but goodie". The Jackie Jensen is not, because I did not collect 1948 LEAF FB cards when I was a kid. Your 1948 & 1949 Sammy Baugh LEAF's are great. Sammy was my favorite Redskins players......along with Sonny Jurgensen, and John Riggins. Here is my 1948 Sammy...... http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/d...sammybaugh.jpg http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/d...sammybaugh.jpg TED Z . |
Here's a 1948 Leaf Ted Fritsch "no face" variation I picked up awhile back. The back features a convenient, hand-printed list of the numbers 1 through 13.

I approve of all the cards showcased in this thread. Beautiful stuff guys!
|
Love this thread. The no face card is awesome! Jthorst, I would love to see more of your Baugh collection!!

Time to share a little...
Figured I'd chime in and add a few images from my collection:
First, a 1948 Leaf Display Box: http://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...eaf%20Box.jpeg And a few of my favorite cards (I really focused on big, fat, full borders): http://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...e/Basic013.jpg http://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...e/Basic021.jpghttp://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...iations028.jpg http://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...iations030.jpg And one of my White Backgrounds (a real one, not one with faded Yellow): http://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...iations031.jpg And a few of my signed cards: http://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...e/Basic058.jpghttp://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...e/Basic062.jpghttp://1948leaffootball.webs.com/Ima...e/Basic082.jpg |
So I thumbed through my Leaf football cards trying to find a favorite. And I selected '48 Leaf #15 Charlie "Choo-Choo" Justice. I like the card because he is pictured in his shoulder pads and not wearing his jersey.
Larry http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...Scan%202_2.jpghttp://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...Scan%203_2.jpg |
Then I find out there was a song written for Choo-Choo.
"All the Way Choo Choo, all the Way A-chug chug chugga with a Hip Hooray Bing, bat, boot that ball around Open that throttle and cover ground" You can listen to the song on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNXzqjobefE http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...hoo_Lyrics.jpg |

I don't know when he signed the card - could be early on - here is a later example of his auto on a short, but to the point, contract with the MaraMen http://hapmoran.org/wordpress/wp-con...tract-1961.jpg |
Hi Mike, The contract displays, but not the card.
|
I think I fixed it.
|
Still getting the question mark unfortunately.
|
|
That worked!
|
AMAZING collection Scott! Are you working on an autographed set as well or just one of each card (autographed or not)?
Also, congratulations on completing your '50 Bowman set Mike (I know, I should have posted on the RA thread). :D Cool Conerly autos too! I thought that you collected primarily prewar stuff. |
This one was my first 1948 or 1948 Leaf. I believe I shared it in the pickups thread, but it obviously will live here as well.

Sweet Bulldog!

Life had gotten a little in the way of posting on here and I thought that this was a thread that would be fun to continue on. In addition to the two I've already posted, I thought I would add these! (After this I will upload pics, but not even sure where the scans are anymore other than in these blog posts).
Well, I learned something today… Low Grade Vintage Pickups from COMC Doak Walker Pickup from Net54 More 1948 & 1949 Leaf cards! |
