Given PSA's recent lax grading, more power to anyone that resubmits and takes advantage of it. I just feel sorry for the people that overpay for these overgraded cards.<br /><br />Jay<br><br>A good friend will come bail you out of jail. Posted By: <b>Paul Moss</b><p>Yep, severely undergraded, and I wish that I was the one that purchased it off ebay at that price, but it was a good bump and a profitable one as well for me. As for your chip on the uniform's N, I believe that was a tiny piece of plastic flash in the holder. If you'll look at the lettering and border at the bottom of the card, you'll see that there's a chip also. If, by some dubious means, I could make chips vanish, that one would gone to the twilight zone as well. Nice try though! Kindly notice that the pink stain on the reverse is still there, and I'm sure that some of you bathing enthusiasts would have had that card in some sort of soapy solution faster than a speeding bullet.<br /><br /><br />Got another bump here as well:<br /><br />From this:<br /><br /><img src="http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8/zardoz51/scan0417.jpg"><br /><br />To this:<br /><br /><img src="http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i8/zardoz51/scan0953.jpg"><br /><br />Made a whole $50 on this one!, less grading fees, ebay fees, etc..........and you ask, why is this maniac getting excited over this card? Pretty simple really, I had quite a few come back from PSA one or even two grades lower. Can't win them all. Still, it's better than having them come back "evid. of trimming" etc., like that ever happens! LOL It is a two way street afterall.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

The SGC grade was more accurate, but getting the best grade has officially been a game for a long time now. As evidenced by the Lajoie, it can pay off big time, especially given that PSA has lets so many overgraded and missed trimmed jobs thru.<br /><br />Jay<br><br>A good friend will come bail you out of jail. Posted By: <b>Judge Dred (Fred)</b><p>There could be a couple of reasons why the Lajoie portrait card graded better (if in fact the cards are the same):<br /><br /><ul><br /><li>Grading subjectivity<br /><li>Two more beers at lunch time (by the grader)<br /><li>It's who ya know...<br /></ul><br /><br />Also, I have to agree with Jay (because I don't want to get my head bitten off and I don't want to be brow beaten <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> ) about the Speaker card. Look at the PSA grading criteria, it doesn't appear to meet the T/B centering criteria. It should (at least) have an OC qualifier. <br />

Posted By: <b>Ted Zanidakis</b><p>John S.<br /><br />"People are definitely buying holders not cards."<br /><br />Your words ring so true....and I actually proved this at the May Philly Show.<br /><br />At my booth in the Show I displayed an EMPTY labelled PSA 8 plastic holder (the<br />card that I removed from it is immaterial) and I had some "dufusses" actually<br />interested in this plastic holder.<br /><br />"Believe it or Not" this actually happened more than once. But, most collectors<br />that saw it had a good laugh.<br /><br />Incidently, I recently sold a cleaner looking Lajoie portrait, GAI 5, for $800.<br /> Did I sell it too cheap ? <br />

I "migrated" several PSA graded cards to SGC purely for asthetic purposes and on several occasions SGC graded the card higher than PSA. Examples:<br /><br />PSA 4 Huggins to SGC60 (broke out and sent in)SOLD<br />PSA 1 Cobb Red to SGC20 (" " " " ")<br />PSA 1 Chance Yellow to SGC30 (" " " " ")<br />PSA 2 Wallace to SGC 40 (" " " " ")<br /><br />All but one cross-over made the cut. GAI3 Tinker didn't cut the mustard, but overgrading by GAI isn't uncommon. I just thought it was interesting how the same card could sell for more than double 2 months later.<br /><br />I agree, more power to the benefactor. We all would like to be able to flip cards with such success I think.

Posted By: <b>dan mckee</b><p>The beauty of grading. What changed about the card to make it go from a 4 to a 5? Did it improve with age? My entire collection less a few cards, is raw. Unfortunately if I ever sell, a bunch should be graded. I still don't quite get it. Someone paid in excess of $2500 for a 1958 topps card that was worth about $25. But... it had a very pretty 9 on the holder. I am sure the 9 was placed there by an expert though. I guess that is what makes the item.
