Yet another slabbed fake. I love 3rd party grading
You can easily tell by the broken boxes on back.

broken boxes?

The lines that form the box on the back don't meet at the corner(s). Mike |
Unless my eyes are worse than I thought, don't these "Not meet"?

For what it's worth, the PSA cert entry reads "FRO-JOY BABE RUTH (NO LONGER GRADE)". Anyone who would be interested in buying this card would hopefully read the cert, know that it's a forgery, and avoid placing a bid in the auction. |

Here's a pic of mine which shows the closed box. I also think you can tell (in person) by the clarity of the photos. The dupes just don't have the crispness of the real ones.
We've discussed this before but the open box (as identified in the Legendary Photos) would indicate that the card was cut from the larger ad. Or more likely scanned from the larger ad for duping or counterfeit. Am I right on this Darryl? The closed box, along with rolled edges of the factory cut cards are one thing to look for for legit factory cut cards. If the card has an open box, theoretically it would be hand cut and come from the larger ad piece. |
The submitters are monkeys throwing their feces at the PSA wall and hoping some of it sticks. Apparently, sometimes it does...
That link to the cert appears to my untrained eye to validate the item as being a PSA graded card from a set that PSA no longer grades, not a decertified card. Am I missing something? |
correct

ps..> I should clarify a little bit. I have handled 100-200 of these cards and there have been 2-3 that I have not been 100% on, but it does happen. |

At this point, PSA has no way of knowing which of the cards they slabbed are authentic or not. Maybe the right thing to do would be to remove all the certs and the people with legit cards could send them back in again for re-authentication with a new cert #. Otherewise, you would think this would cost PSA a lof of money with their buy back guarantee. Just another reason why PSA sucks! |

When you're in the business of authenticating things (baseball cards or other), you better make damn sure what you're authenticating is, well, umm... AUTHENTIC! If there is any doubt, just admit it (nothing wrong with that) and refund the customer's money or give them a voucher. Again, this is just one reason why PSA sucks. I could give you a laundry list of others. |

Where is the challenge in that? |
bummer
If this is not a compromised holder with a different card put into it, then this is a shame. Any grading company should know better than this....

I am going to disagree with you on this one Leon, I think it is fairly easy to tell when handled. I think the grading companies should grade these but they should hire someone that knows something about vintage cards. Dan.
