Posted By: Glenn
Can anybody tell me if there was a card issued of Brooklyn Dodgers catcher John "Fats" Dantonio during his (1944-1945) playing career? Anything at all from the ACC or SCD? Thanks.

Posted By: Rich Klein
The odds are pretty good that there would be no cards issued during their playing days as there was a pretty severe paper shortage during that time.

Fats Dantonio does have a 1990 Dodgers Target card and I suspect that if you check a place such as the Beckett Marketplace (yes that's a plug) -- you might be able to find a copy.

Regards
Rich

Posted By: Glenn
Thanks. There's a Target card on ebay currently, but I think I'd rather just have a period magazine or newspaper cut-out than a card issued so recently. If I can locate a wire photo, so much the better.

He was a minor league roommate of Stan Musial. Nice photo of his son and wife.

Posted By: Anonymous
A great resource for photos of lesser known players from their playing careers is George Brace Photo in Chicago (bracephoto.com). They do have a contemporary shot of D'Antonio. George Brace took photos of virtually every MLB from the 30's through the 80's or so. His daughter runs the business. Their vast archive is available in different sizes for relatively cheap.

Posted By: bobw
My mistake, he first article was not from 1944 but is from the April 15, 1947 Nashua Telegraph. The Dodgers had a farm team in Nashua, New Hampshire. The second article is from an October 1963 Stars and Stripes.
