Dwight "Doc" Gooden will be signing autographs at a mall near me....Is Gooden's signature worth getting or is he just "another autograph"? Opinions and thoughts.....

By worth are you talking about for potential resale? If so, it depends on the cost. His signature isn't terribly valuable or uncommon, so this is a hard question to answer without having some idea of its value to you. If you're a Mets fan that wants it for your collection, without a doubt worth it. If you have ideas of putting a nice down payment on a new car, not so much.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am a Mets fan....and do not collect necessarily for investment.....but, if times became "financially difficult"....would it have any value. I have a pitching rubber with a Mets logo on it.....a 1986 World Series logo ball... and an official MLB Baseball....just not sure which one to get signed.

First question: How much are the autographs and is there a staggered cost based upon the item and / or size ?

$25 per sig....$15 inscription.....$25 photo op. On any item.

Is worth it to have something from the 86 team signed as he was an integral part of the team... resale value on his own not so much but maybe better for 86 team signed stuff..

You would likely break even (or make a little/lose a little) if you were to sell it in the future.

I would get the Mets team ball signed and a single signed baseball . I would not do the pitching rubber because I have not had good experiences myself in the long term with pitching rubbers being signed, I have found that they fade rather quickly compared to other items. This has happened to them for me even if I did not expose them to light or display them out.
As far as investment get them signed because you want them in your collection because your ROI on these will be little or nothing in the short term and long term .

My best advice to you is to pay for as many inscriptions as you can afford. A stat piece will sell for more than anything else. Any of the 3 pieces you have would be fine. I would include (in order of importance)

Stat balls sell and will give you the best chance to get your money back and maybe make a little. The more - the better. A piece like his which documents his career is very nice. He has done so many signings and his stuff is so common that most items with just his name on them are going to be difficult to sell and you will most definitely lose money on it.

And just a suggestion - try to negotiate with the promoter. Ask if you can get a break if you get several inscriptions. Good luck.

I have seen a few as of late on eBay sell that Doc signed with a expletive. Those stat/inscription pics were selling pretty good. Not for everyone-but something unusual.

As a Mets fan I could not resist buying one myself. :D

He smudged a couple of the inscriptions a little....but am still happy with it....cant get pics to upload

Very unique! Was Doc friendly when you met him? I was a fan of his in my younger years.

Incredibly friendly. He was taking longer with each person than promoter was happy with....lol

I've always found him to be a friendly signer... happy to chat and pose for photos.

That said, he does seem to have an inexplicable habit of smearing his just-signed signatures.

Many years ago I had him sign my ticket from his no-hitter. His smeared thumbprint is in the inscription. I did not think it was intentional, but I have seen many similar examples since.
