Babe Ruth Hanna Batrite Bat

2 Attachment(s)
I am looking for some info on a bat. It's a Hanna Batrite with Ruth's name on it. I have done a fair share of googling and cant find another like it without the batwing logo. It measures 35 1/2 inches and weighs a lot compared to my other bats.. Interested if anybody can share some info with me?
Thanks for your time.

1930 or younger bat. The TA stands for tempered ash the 5 was Ruth's numbers for Hanna and the 6 was 36" bat

Nice bat

Babe Ruth Bat

Thanks i have read that about his model 5 and the length being 36". Also that TA is Tempered Ash and the highest quality for pro players. How do you know the year? And can you tell if it was made for Ruth or was it a store bought model? Any input is much appreciated.

Any stampings on the knob

1930-31 was the change over years from the Bat symbol. As said, Need to see knob for additional info

just this little engraved triangle on the knob. The Pat seems to be under the logo on this bat

Nice looking bat

You should weigh it and let us know the results.

Over at the MEARS Authentication site, they have records of 2 Ruth TA54 bats and 2 Ruth TA55 bats. You should take a look at the bats on that site.

Does the knob appear to be finished, like the barrel of the bat? or is it unfinished? If I understand correctly, an unfinished knob with some rasp marks is what MEARS calls "hand turned."

Why don't you at least tell them the awesome auction where you purchased this bat? :)

Ruth Bat Weight

Had it weighed at the local post office and it came in at 33.2 oz. Sounds about right considering some drying over the years..
Any thoughts??
Thanks

it is a store model bat

COdyK 04-25-2017 11:14 AM

Can you tell me why you think that?

murphusa 04-25-2017 01:12 PM

Because it is plain and simple.

go to the last years Edwards Auction and look at the Ruth there and compare.

Lot 1552

That looks like a nice example of a Ruth Hanna bat. I still don't see why this concludes mine is a store bat? Because of the weight? From my understanding Ruth lightened his weight later in his career and also could have lost up to 4 ounces or so... So my bat is a later model Hanna that has no patent stamp on the knob, and to me exhibits Ruth game use characteristics with checking, swelling, cleat marks, dugout stair marks as seen on other Ruth H&B bats, and some paint scuffs, possibly from the bat racks... Measures 35 1/2 inches, not 36" like a store bat model ta 56 would have came out, to me meaning it must have been shortened at some point.. and the weight being 33.2 oz could put it in the 37-38 ounce region is what some of his 30's bats weigh. In 2005 somebody posted a link of Ruth with a Hanna bat on here. Anybody know anything about that picture?? The link has stopped working now
Thanks Cody
