So what do you guys think about a title that says "Must See" Wow!! ?

A title like that works in reverse for me...it acts as a deterrent and I skip over it. But I do check out the description to make sure it's something I don't actually want :)

A nice description works for me...

Back in the early eBay days you'd see nonsense like L@@K a lot. I have to agree, I just skip over auctions with that kind of title.

By the way, who would ever search by WOW or L@@K anyway??

I was just thinking, if you really want to read a lot of puffery without any substantive descriptions, just do a search for "must see" in auction titles.

Just because you're allowed 80 characters for the title doesn't mean you HAVE TO use all of them

Titles like that make me wonder what the seller is trying to take my attenion away from...

cubsfan-budman 12-07-2012 04:27 PM

all you should have in your title are things that someone might use to search for what you're selling.

no one ever searches for "must see" or "L@@K"...

those things are just obnoxious.

I tried "don't miss this" and came up with this gem among 11 other sports cards auctions

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-LSU-Tig...item589979496b

I hope it sales for the right price!

Edited to add that the seller of that item does that for almost all of his auctions. Checking his completed listings, there are 328 items and his highest sold item was for $10.51 with free shipping. One can safely say, this seller has confirmed, it does not work.

"L@@k" search brings up 137,517 must see items, the best on ebay, including a Fleer Albert Pujols.

Just saw this one on fleabay. It is either postmarked 17 years after the death of "Honest" Eddie Murphy, or has something to do with the comedian & I loosely use the term "actor", Eddie Murphy. What did he do in baseball? This came up in a related items search for "People who don't play baseball"

"must see". "Great Deal" "today only" "But wait...Theres more" ahhhh the fluf tag lines - lmao too funny

I mustsay I mind them less than the "see scan" description which always includes a small blurry scan that shows nearly nothing.

Or the ones with a title, 8 pages worth of shipping/customer service nonsense and no description beyond "posted with the Ebay mobile app"

A while back we had a thread asking what are some of the things we dislike in the hobby...I believe my choice was ebay lots that have the word "wow" in the title.

sam majors 12-08-2012 06:49 AM

Damn sure spikes my interest???

Like wow man, I'm hip! It's cool; it's so far out there my man! It's like what's happening in this world of ours! Get's me all jiggy with my fly on. Can you dig it! Peace out home boyzzs!

I always search on WOW and L@@K. :D

I also use the description search to things like:

It was my grandfathers and i dont know the value.......
I dont know anything about cards but it looks real to me........
Found this in my fathers attic (basement).........

etc etc etc.

Geez, the idiots and scammers on Ebay are amazing.

HRBAKER 12-08-2012 08:12 AM

If I want to see "puffery" I have a mountain of auction catalogs that I can look thru at any time, they are by far the worst offenders. This ebay example would most likely not garner a look. Doesn't seem to be working much either.
