1953 Glendale Meats Art Houttemann is a tough post-war card.

Its a 1958 Omaha Cardinals Picture Pack Photo. Also known as Gibson's Pre-Rookie card. Very tough.

With that smile, it's definitely pre-rookie to rookie;)

1963 Nassau County Boy Scouts Duke Snider

I really like this obscure chemical company issue from the early 1950s:

Over the years I've managed to find the top PC (2012 National), the mailer and the Ruth premium

James that Snider Boy Scout card is impressive-where did you unearth that?!

It was an EBay buy, the seller is a member here.

Rarest post war card?

One of the rarest post war cards escaped me last night in goldin auctions...and it sold for a song
The last time sold in auction was 13000 21 years ago
Last nite 1800 + bp
It wasn't hyped or anything...modern crap and memorabilia dominated and this was lost in the
Crowded field
The 1960 Kent Hadley A'S yankees card

I've seen 2 sets of Stanky/Roberts/Konstanty in that span, they've got to be pretty tough.

Are there any images available of the 53 Bowman unissued variations?

ALR-bishop 12-13-2020 10:29 AM

Larry— do you have a link to the Hadley auction ?

sflayank 12-13-2020 10:38 AM

The Hadley did not escape EVERYONE! :>)

Glad to add this to my collection. Now I need to find the Cimoli and Thronberry

1962 Salada Killebrew with straight letters and #48 Dick Williams name on right. The Killebrew may be an early test. The Williams almost never appears while the other rare variations (Brandt, Bailey, and Broussard) are seen at least occasionally.
Also R94-1 Babe Ruth movie scenes (2) from “Babe Comes Home”. Try finding the se especially in vg or better condition.

Congrats Fred. Great pick up. Am envious

Congrats Fred! Had it been marketed properly certainly would’ve gone for 5-10x that.

Thanks for the congrats Al and Anthony! I tried to get the three cards from Bill Haber as far back as the early 70's but he would not give them up.

You can read more about them here:

They were in a SCP auction about 2001 or so. IIRC there were 4, one being Slaughter and another being an action shot like the Reese. I tried searching SCP's archives but they don't go back that far and my catalog is buried in a box. Haven't seen them before or since.

I know of a set that could be available. If interested PM me.

Sorry photo is upside down. Hope someone can correct it for me.

I have no idea who issued this card, but I also doubt there are any others. Matty Alou only played for Escogido in the 1958-59 offseason. Also on the Escogido team with him were a young Willie McCovey and Juan Marichal, who both theoretically probably have cards from this issue too:

Being that I am a Mickey Vernon collector, I'm thrilled to have this very scarce 1948 Gunther Beer PC, a Washington, DC, issue. Does anyone else have any of these, besides Larry S. who showed his Early Wynn-Edie Yost PC earlier in this thread?
