Posted By: <b>Paul</b><p>There really are quite a few obscure post-war cards. Some that few collectors have ever seen. I'm not talking about the kind-of-scarce but very valuable cards like the 1954 Wilson Franks of Ted Williams. I'm talking about the truly rare and never seen, like the 1946 Sears Postcard of Stan Musial, the 1955 Topps stamps, and others that I've never even heard of.<br /><br />Please, post them if you've got them. I'll start off with a couple of Tom Seavers, since I collect everything of him.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1186809488.JPG"> <br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1186809513.JPG"> <br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1186809555.JPG"> <br /><br />The first one is a Korean card of Seaver. I wish I had more info, but I don't. The second is a Kurland Cadillac and Oldsmobile of Seaver, probably from late 1977.

Posted By: <b>Anthony</b><p>Not as rare as the '63 Pepsi Bateman, but the 3 variations of '60 Fleer #80 don't come up very often. I've got a copy of The Trader Speaks from about '73 when they were first discovered. This is the most "common" one, Lefty Grove on the front and Pepper Martin on the back (all #80's have Martin on the back). This one appears to be factory cut, and doesn't have the cancellation gouge that most of them have.<br />Of the 3 variations, Grove/Martin is the most often found (if you ever see one), then Collins/Martin, with Tinker/Martin virtually never seen.<br /><img src="http://photos.imageevent.com/griffins/1960fleer/icons/60Fleer80.jpg"> <img src="http://photos.imageevent.com/griffins/1960fleer/icons/60Fleer81.jpg">

Posted By: <b>Anthony</b><p>The correct version of Grove is as common as any of the other 79 cards in the set-in other words, very common. The Grove with Martin #80 on the back is the scarce one- I've seen 4 in the last 7 years. Collins with Martin is found less, I've seen 3 in the time I've been tracking them, with only one Tinker/Martin in that period.

Posted By: <b>dennis</b><p>i have had a complete sets of these fleer greats since i resumed collecting in adulthood 25+ years ago. i learned all about the old-timers from these cards (and the ethan all all-star baseball game) when i was a 7 year old and still love them. so anthony,there is no pepper martin front? just the back. thanks for showing, thats the first time i've ever seen one. also it is very easy to get the 61/62 wrapper but the 1960 wrapper is really tuff! any theories why? and also i'll add with a 2k price i guess i will never get card #80.<img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

Posted By: <b>Anthony</b><p>Dennis-<br /> '60 packs and wrappers just seem a bit tougher- check Steve Harts website and you'll see he always has '59 and '61'-2 Fleer packs, but rarely '60's.<br />There is no Pepper Martin card in the '60 set, at least with the front.<br /> 2K was not a bad price for this card. A cancelled Collins/Martin that was graded PSA 8 (but didn't have the qualifier it should have, since a chunk was taken out of it in the cancellation) went for a bit over 8K about 5 years ago in a private sale. All 3 that were handcut went for around 3500. each in Lipset about 5 years ago, they reside in Levi's set. All have been graded PSA-authentic. Similar prices were realized on each of the 3 in the Dec '00 Mastro.<br /> The one I obtained (pictured above) was purchased raw on ebay about '02 for $1000. I don't think I'll ever give it up unless I can find a McGowan from the 1948 Safe-T set. I've got one card of every Hall of Famer who has one (except Pete Hill, and maybe Al Spalding depending on your point of view). So I need to hang onto it.<br /><br />Paul

Those are pretty cool, but I was more interested in the card, of course. I'm not selling either, for the same reason as Paul. Posted By: <b>Dave Hornish</b><p>Other small run Topps sets were issued in the 1970-72 era and, in a nutshell featured contest winners. The set was called "One Year Winners" or something similar. I'll have to find my reference material and post a better description. Topps produced a lot of little sets or single card issues that are not well documented in the 60's and 70's (even 80's) that were not designed for general release.

Posted By: <b>Dave Hornish</b><p>Those Topps winners I think can sometimes be found in the Wrapper as they are considered Non Sports in nature from what little I have read. I wish I had one but have only seen them in Wrapper ads (a while ago, not that recently) and never in person. I am also pretty sure they were issued in 1972 as well. More research later today hopefully.
