I like those. They’re obviously a bit earlier than most of the larger logo pins you see. I guess early to mid-60’s?

I’m not sure “my” Giants have a pin that would fit in that set. This one might, but there are no graphics. Then again, the Giants have never had any sort of a mascot logo.

I'm not really sure when they came out. I was thinking maybe mid to late 50's, but that's just a guess. I really like the look too as well as the size. There's a lot of pins that I wish came in a larger size so you could see the details more clearly. .

Could well be. Maybe someone has some evidence to nail down a date. I can’t think of ANY NY Giants of that size and era…

edit: the logos…particularly St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Cleveland…might provide a definitive clue for dating.

I would love some opinions on this recent sale. Had only seen this pin at 3.5 inches. Repo?

With the nationals and Milwaukee usage, I would’ve thought 1953 to 55-ish.

It could just be the ebay pictures, but the resolution looks fuzzy. I would agree….fantasy piece.

That’s what I figured. Thanks Al.

Today’s antique store rescues! A 1990, 25th anniversary square pinback from Atlanta’s former AAA team, the Richmond Braves. I’m a sucker for Richmond baseball stuff!

Secondly, an original 1969 (not the 1983 repop version) MLBPA pinback of Tommy Helms of the Reds.

TSOG Pins Episode

Hey, just a heads-up pertaining to a new TSOG Episode. The latest video features the Pinback Buttons of Joe DiMaggio. Nothing "otherworldly" but some fairly nice examples, including a pretty rare one.

Below is the link, and many thanks for checking it out!

Not a pinback buttons per se, but I’m counting it!

Found this in an obscure, online auction:
A circa 1935 Post Cereal, Dizzy Dean pin.

I love the rare, oddball, vintage baseball stuff that’s out there!

Keyman did a nice write-up on these -

The Dizzy Dean pin used to be fairly common, and cheap, but like everything else has no doubt gotten "collected up" to the point where you don't see it as much. It's very cool.

Very true, Hank. I always feel that 90-year-old, mail-in, cereal premiums are going to be hard to find anyway, so I felt very lucky when the seller said that he had this one. I really love the stuff made in this era.

Thanks! There was so much cool stuff made before WWII that I’m always finding something that I hadn’t seen before myself.

Just in the mail got this (maybe?) one of a kind beautiful Cranes Potato Chips Coupon With Red on the front alongside 4 of the pin designs. I have dated it to 1951-1955 based on the Indians logo and the fact red was traded early in 1956 (hat hes wearing was only worn until 1955)
What makes it even cooler is the hand written notation on the back, it was Written by hobby pioneer Buck Barker and came from his personal collection. He mentions Jefferson Burdick, unfortunately I'm not sure what RS means. (Red Schoendienst? Or maybe an abbreviation used by Buck)
I have seen the Yankees and the Indians pins from a friends collection but have not seen the cardinals or Dodgers ones yet.

Interesting. I had always thought the Crane pins were only issued 1961-69. I have all of those and the Guy’s for my SF Giants. Your paper, with the Brooklyn Dodgers, shows there were 1950’s issues as well. I have a few pins which might be Crane New York Giants but I never categorized them as such. I’ll post pictures later…

Yes indeed! With the coupon they are now confirmed to have issued a 50s set. I'm thinking 1953 or 1954 are a good guess as Red had one of his best years ever in '53 and he's headlining the coupon (then again there could've been 20 different players on the coupons).

Might try looking through some newspaper archives later.

I know I’ve seen that Yankee fan pinback before. Surely, there has got to be a checklist somewhere or a photo reference.

Just found this Facebook post in a cursory search - https://m.facebook.com/story.php/?id...73701067307294

I thought that the comment circled in red was especially appropriate to this discussion about Cranes having a 1950s pin set.

Could the pin in the center be a 1950's Crane issue? It's a pretty common pin but I have never seen a Crane attribution. The slightly larger ones are also a mystery to me and I've never had an explanation for the two color schemes. If any are Cranes, I would lean toward the center pin...it's the right size.

Love that detail, sweet find. I wouldn't be surpr if crane made an even earlier set seeing they were in business since '38.

Definitely a possibility, doesn't look like crane had any kind of license or deal with the league. Very bootleg looking pins. But nice quality at the same time.

Yankees one top right and Indians diagonal to it. Thanks to my friend Mark for sharing. Sorry for the abysmal quality it's a zoomed in screenshot. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...61367c33e8.jpg

I would say that based on this paper, we can solidly confirm that Cranes did issue a set of pins in the early 50s. We have two of the four examples shown and I’m sure the other two are out there somewhere in people’s collections.

Now we need to find some kind of documentation that shows what the complete set of pins should look like. I know we all have team pins that are unattributed to any particular manufacturer or set so it would be nice if we could find out which exact pins were part of the Cranes set.

This picture from your friend, could those also be Cranes pins or are they attributed to some other set?

Very possible, I will send the 3 photos he sent me unedited. He couldn't date them before I found the coupon so they are very likely mixed in with 1960s pins. I am not well versed on cranes pins so I can't tell which do or don't match current known years. I would say the right side with the similar size as the two we know are 50s definitely are the most likely.
Obviously there are some that are far newer as well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5e2eefc46b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2bbb3dba76.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...293724e3eb.jpg

It is related to the Mantle Maris pursuit of 61 home runs. It is also very scarce. I would not want to venture a guess on value but it should do well.

Thank you!! I appreciate the information. I pretty much figured that it was related to Mantle/Maris but I just wanted to make sure. I tried to look it up but I can't find one that sold anywhere.

How big is that pin? What type of pin is on the back? The “you could poke your eye out” type?

Thanks. In your second picture (the back), is that a Union/maker’s mark on the curl or did the paint wear off?
