Anyone ever seen a wallet like this?

Hi All:

As a kid in the late 50's early 60's I had a wallet that looks a lot like the one below only it had Lew Burdette on the front. I also recall seeing one of Ted Williams.

Everything looks the same, the color of the plastic, the blue trim etc. I have looked for years and never saw another until this recently popped up on ebay and somehow I saw it.

I asked the seller if he had seen any baseball and he replied no. I emailed the winner but have yet to hear back. I expect no luck there either as he is a western collector looking at his won auctions.

So, how about it? Anyone here have or ever seen a baseball wallet like this??

I've never seen a baseball wallet in similar style, although, believe it or not, this jogs my memory -- my first was a Roy Rogers.

You might Wire Paladin, San Francisco:)

Larry:

Any photos of the ones you note above?

Is the Williams like the one below? If so that is not what I am talking about.

The Burdette was light brown plastic like the Paladin shown with the smooth edge. Had a snap change pocket inside as I recall.

So Larry, since you can't post photos, do the Bit O Honey wallets look like the Paladin or the Williams above, or different than both?

I saw a TV quiz once that asked for his first name. The answer was Wire. The reasoning was wire palidin letters were all one size but SF was in small print. Also something about timing of telegrams in SF. N

Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man.
A knight without armor in a savage land.

His fast gun for hire head's the calling wind.
A soldier of fotune is the man called Paladin.

Wallet

Hi Larry:

Thanks for the link to the Bit O Honey auction.

This Paladin wallet is nothing like what is shown in the listing.

The Bit O Honey's are leather, the Palladin and the Burdette I had were NOT leather, but rather a cheap flimsy vinyl.

See this listing for multiple photos

So the Burdette wallet is still a mystery.

But I do remember seeing the Burdette wallet at sometime. I had a number of the Davy Crockett wallets about 5 years ago.

Ted Williams wallet

Hi All:

I started this thread about a year and a half ago. I noted I was looking for something I had back in the late 50's a Lou Burdette wallet.

I mentioned I recalled a Ted Williams wallet that was issued like the Burdette. I guess I bought the Burdette because I liked the NL best being a Phillies fan. In all my years of collecting I had not seen another and was starting to think I dreamed the whole thing!

That was before this years National when I spotted the Ted Williams wallet. See photo below.

I hope it does not take me another 50+ years to find the Burdette! Now that you have all seen the picture of what I am talking about, anyone out there have the Burdette?

Fred- I had the Paladin wallet. It came in a boxed set with the holster, gun, vest and wallet. Inside the wallet there were about five Paladin business cards with the chess piece in the middle. For some of us old timers you may remember that Paladin left a card when his job was completed in each episode.

Hi Mike:

I don't recall the Williams/Burdette wallet coming in a boxed set like this. All I can recall is being eight or nine years old, on vacation with my parents. Found our way into a little Mom and Pop store in N.J. like were around in those days, and seeing the wallets in a glass case with penny candies, small gifts and the like!

If they did come in a box set wonder what would have been included?

I note in the photo of the Palladin wallet there is no mention of SIRIS on the front like is evident on the Williams wallet. No question however that they look like the same manufacturer.

Now I need to find the Burdette!

Burdette Wallet found!!

Hi Guys:

I started this thread a couple of years ago asking if anyone had or remembered seeing a Lou Burdette wallet I had as a kid. I noted I recalled seeing but not owning a similar wallet with Ted Williams.

I found the Williams at the National last year and posted a shot of it in an earlier post.

Well, after YEARS of looking I did indeed find the elusive Burdette wallet! See below. I am sure most of you know the feeling of finally acquiring something you have been looking for for so long.

Lou Burdette Wallet Package!

2 Attachment(s)
Hi All:

I started this thread years ago asking if anyone had a Lou Burdette wallet like the one I had as a kid in the late 1950's.

If you look back you will see I first found a Ted Williams then finally the Burdette wallet.

Well, today's mail brought the below item that I think will finish off my quest. Never did I think I would find the original packaging for the Burdette wallet. As in other things that come in boxes, packages etc. we all threw away the packaging, because after all we were buying what was inside.

Now to find the Williams packaging!

Anyone have this or seen the Williams. Wonder if other players were issued by the A.J. Siris Products Corp?

Fred

that is amazing. fantastic pickup!!!!

Kids wallets were a big thing once. There's even a Soupy Sales wallet that has some kind of attribution to Topps. Someone sent me a picture of the sales brochure the Soupy's appeared in and I believe there was some connection to Aurora Products.

http://toppsarchives.blogspot.com/se...Sales%20Wallet

I need to find that brochure scan as it had other items too that may be related to some of the wallets above.

Very cool Lou Burdette wallet and original packaging! Congratulations on your pickup!

I found this ad in the Dec 2, 1949 NY Daily News. Not sure if these are the same wallets or not. I don't see Lou Burdette on this list, but it may not be all that were available.

Here's the Soupy Sales brochure-it was from Mattel not Aurora as I posted earlier. They had Universal Monster products in there too IIRC correctly but the link I had to that portion of the brochure is gone. So anything NS wallet-like from the early to mid 60's could have a Mattel connection if you are researching as it looks like Mattel didn't brand the products but did 3rd party manufacturing.

The Burdette wallet came out in late 1957 or early 1958 after the 1957 World Series. Those wallets were made eight years earlier, but it's possible the same manufacturers made the Burdette wallet years later.
