One of a kind George Sisler postcard!!!!

Picked this up on ebay tonight and I'll eat my hat if that's not George Sisler far right with his hat off. Looked at numerous photos online and looks like a perfect match. You guys agree? Also wondering if any of you know who the other fellow is or the story of how this photo came to be, doesn't look like a professional stadium to me. Thanks!

I thought it was Sisler when I first saw the auction, and have little doubt upon further review. Looks like he's helping the other team depicted kick off a new season (stadium?) by raising the flag in the Spring. Maybe the area team from Spring training? Doesn't seem to match his alma mater's unis, at least from when he played there.

This postcard was delivered today so here are some better scans. No doubt that's George Sisler raising the flag. What a find!

Sisler missed the 1923 season. Was player manager 1924/26 and 1927 was his last season in St. Louis. In 1924 the Browns trained in Mobile, AL. Tarpin Springs, FL 1925-1927. That is definitely no major league field. I'm guessing that is 1924 in Mobile and the mystery player is the opposing manager. Or could be one of of the several exhibitions after camp broke and they played their way north.

How cool would it be to find the photo of that flag raising that they are obviously posing for?

Sorry I'm a bit late on this one, but that's definitely Sisler--I've been a big Sisler fan since my Stratomatic days, when we played his 1922 season: .420, 8 HR, 44 doubles, 16 triples and 51 stolen bases! That dimpled chin stands out anywhere!

Great pickup!

Best,

Larry
