1923 E123 Curtis Ireland

Has anyone ever seen a Vernon Clemons card or is it non existent?

Had a similar search to yours a few years ago. My Great Great Uncle Elmer Miller was supposedly in the E123 set and looked for nearly 20 years. The actual card showed up in a Heritage auction that I missed. Made a crazy offer through their system and boom, the card was mine. Probably one of a kind but I found one.

I'm in the same boat with the Curtis Ireland card of Riggs Stephenson. It's listed on some checklists, but in over 20 years of searching I've never seen one.

That's totally awesome that you found one. Is it the graded SGC 2.5 that sold in 2016?

Yep, that was it. Best of all, it was already in a SGC slab so it fit perfectly into my collection.

About 15 or 16 years ago, a Curtis Ireland of George Gibson showed up on eBay. I went after but didn't win. I forget what the card sold for (maybe $300?), but it was more than I was willing to pay. At the time I already had a decent looking V100 and figured I'd just try again 'next time.'

I've never seen that V100 since, whether for sale or for display in somebody else's collection.

I hadn't considered that the set might be one-of-a-kind, but maybe that's why. SGC and PSA each show 1 graded example of Gibson, both as a 4. Whether it's the same card or not, who knows.

Good luck to anyone trying to track down a specific E123.

Richard.
