A PSA 7 Topps willie Mays for $9000? thats a hugh price jump from what i had seen before......forget any allegations of shilling when its that high..

1954 topps HanK Aaron PSA 7s 4500 and 5000 range.

1954 topps Banks PSA 7 $3500?

man the timing must of been right on these cards and just a short sample..

A 55 Clemente PSA 6 just closed at about 4500 too. I'm sure that's a record

Banks died this year, and from the looks of Hank and maybe Willie at a recent oldguys event, it could be that there is some gruesome speculation at work in the pricing of their cards.

This one seems crazy to me as well. About 5k over previous all time high, including a sale just a month ago. That's almost a 70% jump in a month.

That one sure does seem high. That can't be a low pop card....?

The final bid is even more amazing with this example due to it having such a noticeable tilt to it.....my guess is that this copy will be seen in a future auction somewhere very soon with a final hammer price somewhere in between the previous all time high and this newest all time high .

My two cents: there seems to be a lot of attention being given right now to the most significant cards of iconic players that most collectors are familiar with. There may be a bit of a backslide, since these cards are not all that tough, even in "7," but I wouldn't be surprised to see them established at these and even higher levels. As the hobby matures, more and more of the big guys, to whom money is the least of their worries, will come in, just as in coins and cars. A '71 426 Hemi Cuda convertible recently sold for $3.4 million--they only made 12--while a 1913 Liberty Head nickel (5 in existence) sold for $5.7 million not too long ago.

Hope your collecting brings you maximum joy and minimal frustration,

Larry
