1890's Boxing Supplements-What am I?

3 Attachment(s)
I have a small group of circa 1890's boxing supplements, similar to M101-1 with a bio on the back, approx. 10 3/8" x 13 3/4 a few smaller, probably cut down. Photos appear to be mostly Richard Fox as used on Mayo Cut Plug and other period issues. Can anyone tell me the correct set and or designation for these?

I can't say I have ever seen them before, but if Richard K. Fox's name is on them somewhere they are likely an early Police Gazette supplement issue.

Rhett.......

Fox's name is not on them nor is their any other publishing info. Police Gazette sounds plausible as all of the photos may have been done by Fox and he would have had the rights to use them.

Thanks

Do you think these are from that book(taken out) or some other type of issue?

Yes they were taken out of the book. I have a few, I like the Godfrey and the Peter Jackson. Here is a link to one that sold recently on ebay. It has some photos of the book cover and inside pages.

Yes. It's a book of plates.

One ended on Ebay recently.

They can also be found in a serialized softcover version of around 4-5 editions and put out by Billy Edwards in the 1890's.

"Gladiators Of The Prize Ring" is basically the compiled version of these editions all put together in one edition.

There might be a slight size difference between the two but I'm not sure.

Beat me to it.

Beware: there is a modern reissue of the book in the same size and format as the original. It is not as nice when placed side by side but otherwise you'd not know.

Yup.

You could generally tell from the paper stock but a couple blurry digital pics next to each other it might be tough.

The re-issue which goes by a different title I won't name here is actually quite an attractive coffee table book for those on a budget.
