Fake Autographs Advertised In Tough Stuff

Does anyone know if any type of autographed ring sold through advertisements in Tough Stuff or Beckett during the 1980’s? Was going through some old pictures of a friends collection and there were some obvious fakes (didn’t have the heart to tell him) but asked him where he got them and he told me through an advertisement in a price guide when he was a kid (would’ve been mid 90’s). The auto was willie mays fwiw.

Tough Stuff and Sports Collectors Digest were too common sources of bad autographs back in that period

Coachs corner every issue of SCD had about 6 pages or so and was one of the big advertisers Most pages without pictures. Make your own assumptions. The whole time frame was the busting of people in the Operation Bullpen bust. Even Teletrade Auctions advertised many pages most fake stuff as I know first hand as I had many items deemed fake. Same thing many pages with no pictures. Don't remember though if they advertised in SCD or they sent a little catalogue. Looking back I remember the mass amount of DiMaggio, Mantle, Mays and Williams stuff. Garbage.

I think Stan The "Flimflam" Man Sports Collectibles advertised in those publications during that time frame. I know I got the flimflam treatment on a DiMaggio Ball.

Teletrade was always advertised in SCD
