Well, I just got home from a crazy night at work. Hope everyone had a fun and safe New Years Eve. My new year of collecting starts off the same way 2011 did, with a TYPE 1 photograph of the Iron Horse. This one is from 1932.

Huge Display Bat
 

I love this bat!:D It came from Pennsylvania. It's approximately 6ft tall, solid, and retains it's original appearance and finish. I've only seen one other that was smaller. I had assumed this was a storefront sign displayed in front of a sporting goods store. After I had bought it the guy said it came from a baseball bat factory and had been displayed there. As you can see it was displayed from the handle end hanging down. I won't alter the originality of the piece one bit like drilling holes, etc but I want to display the bat horizontally with some old leather straps.

is that the one from the Morphy auction? If so, it was a nice looking dislay peice

Vintage Baseball Photo Help Needed
 

I was lucky enough to obtain this vintage photo today at a local New Years Day auction and it is of a team from Freeport, Illinois near where I live. It measures 13X12.5 in size. There are several names written on the backside but no one of importance that I see and also no date. I am wanting to know if anyone can pin down the approximate time-frame this might have been taken given the types of uniforms/equipment/etc. displayed in the picture and what the present day value might be given it is only a local team with no major leaguers that I know of shown in the photograph. Thanks for any help or comments.

You have a very nice image. It is a great pose with lots of equipment visible. I would place it at about 1880-1885 with a value of $200.-$300., if it is not a copy. What paper stock is the photo on?

Thanks. It resembles cardboard on the backside. There is very faded writing of who was on the team and someone has copied directly over those signatures with pen indicated the names....unfortunately, not all of them... only 7 total.

Happy to start the year off with this Ted Williams Root Beer megaphone. Only the second example I've encountered.

Yet another killer piece Brock! :eek: This megaphone and your Home Run Derby Hat are my favorites.

Also, this Williams megaphone would go perfect with my TYPE 1 photo. ;)

Nice way to start the year Brock Congrats..very nice, first one of those I've seen.

Got these awesome Hal Chase Type 1 photos plus some more. The first one is a match to the 1941 issue of Sporting News I just got (ebay link below). Does anyone know how to save ebay pics now? I can no longer right click and save them if they dont have a pic in the description?
Also got a couple really nice Funeral pics, creepy I know.

Jimmy my friend I would also believe that either one of these pins would make a great companion piece for you also ! one on the left a little harder the one on the right much easier. I will make a pin collector out of you yet !;);)

enlarge the ebay photo...use print screen to grab it and paste it to a photo-editing program (like ms paint)

When you look at the image on eBay, hit enlarge. You should be able to save ther image from there. I hope this helps!

Yea I was doing that but when i right click there is no save picture choice. Always been frustrating to me :(

This came in yesterday's mail. c. 1920's B.F. Keith's Theatre - BABE RUTH Himself - Advertising Handout Promoting the Bambino "HIMSELF" in his One Man Vaudeville Show.

Born and raised on a New Hampshire farm, B. F. Keith began his
show business career in the 1870s working in circuses. In 1883 he
opened a dime museum in Boston and soon began presenting live
variety acts in its 300-seat theater. With his partner Edward F.
Albee, Keith leased several regular theaters in the Northeast,
presenting low-priced, completely respectable “vaudeville” shows
that ran continuously from morning to night. In the early twentieth
century the Keith-Albee Circuit came to dominate big-time
vaudeville.

Having such disposable income aside, how you guys find some of this stuff amazes me.

Besides being a great Cincinnati piece, I love the picture. Did a player really stand behind the target when the pitcher was practicing throwing at it? Pitchers must have been a lot more accurate back then...

I was told that the target man was Honus. I see a resemblance, but why him?..

Dave, I believe this depicts a pitching excersize for picking off a steal at second base. I like the partial Morelein's Beer sign along the dasher.

I was about to say that the target man sure as hell looks alot like Honus.

Sure does look like him, reminds me a lot of Honus's profile on the cracker jack cards:

A couple of really nice early 2012 pickups....
 

Here are some early 2012 pickups that I really like:

1) Extremely rare dated May 30, 1912 ticket stub to HOF Rube Marquard's 43rd career win.
Marquard pitched the AM 1st game of a twinbill at Baker Bowl in Philly. The NY Giants win 7-1 behind twirler Marquard's excellent pitching. Marquard would lead the NL circuit with 26 wins in 1912, which proved to be the high water mark in his career.

2) Beautifully scored program and ticket stub from September 27, 1961 at Phillies. Sandy Koufax passes HOF Christy Mathewson for the NL single-season strikeout record with 269 K's. Mathewson's former record that stood for 58 years was 267 K's. Koufax would continue to improve on this record, ultimately ending up with the current NL strikeout standard of excellence of 382 K's in 1965. The only pitcher that ever struck out more in a single-season was fellow HOF'er Nolan Ryan with 383 K's in 1973 in the AL. These records will never be broken because of specialized pitching.

The patron that scored this game and sat in this seat was a long time season ticket holder with the Phillies and avid fan. The job that he did scoring it is nothing less than spectacular. Both ticket and program are in remarkable condition for being 50 years old...

That photo is just killer...I was on it too but Jimmy "pulled the trigger" while I was dragging by feet. It is crystal clear... very very nice pickup.

I started my year off with a bang as well(2 purchases). I picked up a nice TYPE 1 CHARLES CONLON BABE RUTH PHOTO as a companion piece to go along with my ORIGINAL KREINDLER OIL PAINTING that I will be receiving shortly.:)

This is my favorite Ruth Image of all time so I am very very lucky to have acquired these. The bubble gum is just classic! The only bad news is, I might not have any money to spend the rest of the year! HAHA

Thats a beautiful Vander Meer would love to see Graigs efforts on that one. Please post it when he completes it. These are my last pick ups unitl June. They were actually purchased last month and arrived earlier this week. I purchased 4 Lazzeri pictures for some reason. They are all Type 1, if anyone is interested in one of them let me know. I think the 1955 Kaline and 1938 Hubbell in the dugout shots would look great as paintings but I can barely afford the photographs. Graig's talents are way out of my league. Although I primarily collect hall of fame members I could not resist the Castro photogaph. I am willing to bet his team won that game:D
