Show us your Red Kleinow cards....all types are welcome

John "Red" Kleinow was not much of a hitter, but a fine catcher. Red (in 1908) was one of the first to wear the new external chest protector designed for
catchers in 1907. This is illustrated in many of his various types of BB cards (circa 1909 - 1916).

May 26, 1910....the Boston (AL) team purchased Kleinow from the NY Highlanders. My T3 Kleinow still identifies Red with the NY team. And, this suggests
that this T3 was one of those T3's produced by American Lithographic in 1910.

OK guys....show and/or tell us of your Red Kleinow cards.

Sorry, I don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but the Kleinow (bat on shoulder) card that Tsaiko posted bears a striking resemblance to Honus Wagner. Sorry again, I just never noticed it before.

Heres my No Red Ink T206 Red Kleinow Batting variation. I didn't know this card even existed before I found it. Only one i've seen so far like this. PSA didn't even catch the error. Might get it reholdered with the no red ink notation.

I'm on the road and can't post a scan, but Larry McLean looks like he is wearing a butcher's apron for a chest protector. I've heard some people don't like the look of that card, but I have always dug it.

Best,

Andy

Trivia

Right on, Andy

As all the responses indicate here, there are 6 cards that depict catchers with some semblance of a chest protector. They are......

Kleinow (New York)
Kleinow (Boston)
McLean
Needham
Powers
Snodgrass (catching)

Thanks for your participation.

Don't forget McLean

Here he is.

Kleinow's T3 is just a classic pose and card. Although his t206 catching pose is popular, especially the variation, I like his E 92 second best

please ignore the Bridwell....

No Kleinow cards in my inventory, but I just have to land a T3 to go along with these...

Why is it that the Boston version is recognized as the "scarcer" type when it seems to me that I see way more Boston versions?

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...leinowSGC4.jpg

Runscott 12-30-2011 11:10 AM

This might be blasphemy, but...

Also, if anyone has the Snodgrass, Powers or Needham original photos, I would LOVE to see them and incorporate them in a new project.

Tim, please clip and add to your site. Seriously, this pic should be there.

Since it is a more valuable card (because of the scarcity) it is more likely to be sent in for grading and also more likely to be offered for sale.

This is a good time to buy them - probably because of what you say above, they are not perceived as being all that scarce anymore. I recently sold a good-vg one on ebay for around $35. As a result, I put my other one away for safekeeping until the market changes.
