Am I Potentially Getting Scammed? Paypal

Non-card related. But I just got a $2,680 deposit into my paypal account from a guy in Texas. I've tried to contact him via phone and e-mail with no success. Have no idea who this person is and my address is very, very specific. Has anyone ever experienced of heard of such an issue?

Click in to the payment and click refund payment.

I thought of doing that but wasn't sure if there was some way I was getting duped.

Call Paypal customer service...my experiences with them have been very good.

Friends and Family? I would probably just assume it was a mistake, refund him, and move on.

Not friends and family. Still says its pending for 3 more days.

Wonder if somehow it's someone hoping you send them the money back not as a refund, and then their initial transfer doesn't clear.

Scott makes a good point. Don't refund the guy. Call customer service.

Reminds me of in Taxi when Latka found unexpected money in his pocket and said it must have been there by 'putpocket.'

OK. Paypal customer service was surprisingly helpful and guided me in cancelling the payment (without issuing a refund).

So many email accounts were compromised by the Yahoo breach. Gaming the paypal pending payment process must be one of the ways that data has been exploited. Nothing to lose on the scammers' end; meanwhile you get stuck wasting countless hours fighting to get your funds back.
