Modern lemon peel

selling as an antique lemon peel but you cannot convince me that this is a ball from the 1860's

Nice weather, but you'd better charge your battery

khkco4bls 05-09-2019 11:27 AM

And Gary it's up to 5 hundred and change

Is that not the same ball that sold on ebay 5/1/19 for $411? Just darkened and scuffed up a bit this go round?

steve B 05-09-2019 04:04 PM

What's the actual price range for a replica lemon peel? I can't see 400+ as anything but someone believing it's actually old.

If you rotate the 2nd pic posted 90 degrees to the right the stitches match up. I couldn't rotate it before posting or I would have. The buyer of the ball doesnt appear to be the current seller.

1880nonsports 05-09-2019 10:44 PM

well

whether it's the same ball or a different ball - every picture reveals multiple clues neither is old - many inconsistencies relative to the stitching, aging, and the relationship between the stitching and the leather. They did a rather poor job of distressing it but were doomed to fail from the start. Good catch if it's the same ass continuing to try and cheat the unwitting or unwary...…

I think you just may be correct. Looks like he may have rubbed it up with some good ole Delaware River mud and now it's decades older.

That to me is looking to deceive to make more money and it definitely is the same ball

khkco4bls 05-10-2019 06:34 PM

You know I used to like looking at his stuff that he get in but there's no doubt he is deceiving people he's not going to answer me and I reported it to eBay let's see what happens

ramram 05-10-2019 08:43 PM

This morning I asked him "Hi. How'd this ball get so much darker in the last nine days? Was there an oil or preservative rubbed on it? Thanks." which I think was a fair and non-confrontational question but I’ve not received a response.

Rob M

Edited to add: He just now responded with the following “All I did was clean it with a professional neutral leather cleaner. Nothing else was done to it.” Probably should have had that in his description but otherwise I’m fine with him trying to stabilize it so long as he’s not trying to deceive by aging it.

khkco4bls 05-11-2019 07:08 PM

You will not receive a response I have contacted him many times the only time he responded was it came from a reputable dealer who's he kidding it came from ebay....

khkco4bls 05-13-2019 09:37 AM

I actually called eBay to report this item and of course they did nothing .So what does this guy do he reports me to eBay and says I'm harassing him. Then ebay sends me a warning email. Unbelievable...Isent him the pictures side by side and said the pictures don't lie my friend

Just in case people have missed my edited note from above with regard to his response to me -

Anytime anyone "cleans" sometime it's done to remove something else(i.e dirt, grime, etc). It appears his neutral cleaning job has done the exact opposite

jpop43 05-15-2019 07:07 PM

$635...just wow.

I just sent the following question a little while ago -

"Are you selling the same ball you sold last month?"

Their response -

"Yes, there was a payment issue with the last buyer so I had to relist it"

My follow up -

"I’m confused. Didn’t the buyer take possession and then treated it with some kind of leather treatment that darkened the ball and then they resold it themselves??"

Their answer - "Now that you say that it is darker...they took possession and then decided that they wanted refunded. I just re-listed it. I’m going to have to end the auction and appeal the refund"

19 bids on that trash... come on people!

And aside from the fake ball, it appears that e***n might be artificially driving up the price.

ruth-gehrig 06-16-2019 07:02 PM

So the current seller, who originally sold this ball to hammersportsrelics, is relisting it because hammersportsrelic got it returned, probably because the buyer discovered it wasnt an old ball. Remember the ball got darker by hammersportsrelic from an innocent "cleaning".
Now the current seller is listing it with the original and much lighter colored ball before it was cleaned. The buyer will be opening a package with a dark ball when the Ebay pictures show a much lighter ball.
I hope the ball gets returned again for not being correctly described lol

ramram 06-16-2019 09:32 PM

Yup, and they told me they were going to close the auction too but that obviously didn’t happen. All kinds of wrong going on here.
