2nd February Pick ups...

Posted By: Dan Kravitz
Cardboard stock 7" x 9" 1907 Pickering's Wagner. It seems this is a 1 card set distributed by Pickering's Furniture Pitts.

“Born just thirty-seven years ago, in a storeroom so small that "you had to back out to the sidewalk to turn around."
But now--Pickering's have forged to the front as the "largest credit furniture and carpet house in the world."
Mention "Pickering's" anywhere within a several-hundred-mile radius of Pittsburgh and hear how quickly some one answers, "Your credit's good" or "Nuf ced!"
The reason for the unprecedented growth of the business is as well known as Pickering's popular trade-mark expressions: fair dealing, nothing else. That means the best possible goods at the lowest prices consistent with a living profit; a hearty willingness to extend the people credit; an honest, wholesome way of treating customers after the goods have been delivered.
At Tenth Street and Penn Avenue you will find furniture, carpets, rugs, draperies, gas and coal ranges, heaters, dinner-ware, toilet-ware, framed pictures, cut glass, and bric-a-brac.”

I'm still looking for colors other than blue, brown and green if anyone has any that they would like to part with.

It is interesting to note the different croppings between the cards. Specifically, the brown card is cropped slightly differently than the blue and green ones.

Posted By: Jason L
very cool to see such a nice quality photo image of the guys.
Kling looks alot nastier than he is depicted in most sets, while Chance looks almost identical to his many depictions...and I think that is the first time I have seen a pic of Lundgren, for some reason.
Funny to see how the famous trio is spread out throughout the team shot...I know there was alot of love there.

What is the history of that issue? never heard of it. You had to mail in your warranty card when you bought a new boiler for the house? please share if you know about the set.

thanks!

Posted By: Rob
Jason, thanks for the nice words. I actually stumbled upon the Supplement accidentally while looking for something unrelated (no, not a new boiler haha). I got it from a Lew Lipset ebay auction, and I previously hadn't even heard of it. "Philadelphia Sporting Boiler". In the writeup Lew says there were 16 Supplements, one from each team at the time. I've never seen any others, so if anyone has one please show it!

I did a quick google and couldn't find any info on the paper/magazine/whatever it was, so if anyone does have info please share.

Rob

Posted By: Paul
This could get addicting. How many different Red Cobby back variations are there? On a side note, just got back from the hospital. I was doing a small roof repair on my house, & fell off. Broke two ribs, 2 fractures in my pelvis, fractured my tailbone, etc.. Moral of the story- if we can afford expensive old cardboard, pay someone else to fix it. Of course that would cut into the card budget.
