Possible Sign of the Apocalypse:
If any Major League team signs 53-year-old Rafael Palmeiro.
Some mighty stupid things have occurred lately, so you never know... . |
If by some stretch he plays another MLB game, is he eligible to be on the HOF ballot again? If so that might be his motivation for an unlikely comeback.
|
Yes, his eligibility would be reinstated, but Viagra is no longer interested in having him as the face of their advertising.

Minnie Minoso was like 56 i think so its not like it never happened if he wanted to be a pinch hitter etc.
(this is a positive post) |
Barry Bonds couldn't get signed after his age 42 season and his excessive amount of baggage after posting a .276 / .480 / .565 / 1.045 slash line his final season in baseball.
I highly doubt any MLB team will want the circus that comes with picking up an age 53 Palmiero, just so they can have some pinch hitter occasionally come off the bench for them and pull his hammy running down to first base after a ground out. If he really wants to play baseball, I'm sure there's any number of Independent League teams that would love to have him. |
I just don't see what anyone has to gain. When Minoso played he was a beloved player looking to set a record for decades played. I don't think Palmeiro is beloved by anyone.
|
Wasn't the thing with Minoso also a 1-game publicity stunt type of thing? Thats not what Raffy is eyeing. I think he honestly believes if he plays another year even at a mediocre level then by the time he's eligible for the Hall of Fame again people will be more lenient toward the steroid era. He already stated he's not interested in Indy ball or a minor league deal, which is pretty ballsy of him frankly.

How does a guy with 569 HR and 3020 hits only make 4 all star teams.
|
Guy had a crap last couple of years 10+ years ago ON THE JUICE, but yeah he's gonna be good now...

He should just shut up and be happy with the bogus gold glove award he got as a DH. |
