RARE Variation 1997 Topps Rookie Reprint Autographs??

Hi All:

A few questions on the 1997 Topps Rookie Reprint sets. It is my understanding that there were 15 in the set of the regular reprint set and 14 in the autograph set because Ashburn died before he could sign the cards.

On the autographed set, beside the autograph there is a gold foil "stamp" saying something like Certified Autograph Issue.

Have these cards been seen without the autographs but with the foil stamp?

I am an advanced Ashburn collector and have been approached by someone who says he has a sheet of the set unautographed with the foil stamp that includes Ashburn! If so this would be the rarest Ashburn card in Topps history.

Any help with info scans etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Fred

Bumping this up.

NO ONE knows anything about this?

How about it Topps experts Dave and Al??

Thanks,

Fred

Hi Fred, the autographed issue did have Certified Autograph Issue in gold foil on the front. I've never seen one with the stamp and no auto. Randy

Hi Randy:

Thanks for the reply. I know the autographed ones came with the gold foil stamp.

My question is, have any turned up UNAUTOGRAPHED WITH the foil stamp?

See photo below. I believe this is the only Ashburn known WITH the Gold Foil Stamp since his card was not issued autographed.

And the other cards on the sheet also would be the only ones in the set with the foil stamp UNAUTOGRAPHED.

Make sense?

I love theses sets. Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I rarely look in the post 1981 area

It looks like you found your answer. There were no singles of Ashburn with the gold foil autograph on it to my knowledge. The only one I've seen is the full sheet.
