Is the Obaks issue<BR>Buck's 'true' rookie card (a gorgeuos,real<BR>fine card!), or the somewhat bland T207?<BR>Or is there an earlier major league issue<BR>that is the real true undisputable rookie<BR>card?

Posted By: <b>B Hodes</b><p>I am with the first Major League card school of "Rookie" cards.<BR>The minor league cards may be his "first card" but not his "rookie card." After all the common definition of "Rookie" is rookie in the majors -- the "Rookie of the Year" is given to the best player in his first Major League season. <BR><BR>Oh and I really like the T207 Weaver it is one of the nicest cards in that set (the text on the back of it captures the kind of player weaver was too). The minor league card is attractive too, but nothing interesting is on the back.

Posted By: <b>Andy Baran</b><p>Weaver has several Minor League Cards from 1911. His first Major League card is the 1912 T207, which I consider to be his Rookie Card. It's up to you which one you feel is his Rookie Card.<BR><BR>The one thing that I think most of us are in agreement on is that the appearance/aesthetics of the card has nothing to do with whether or not it is a rookie, while it may affect the desirability of the card.

Posted By: <b>TBob</b><p>I agree with BH, the 207 Weaver is a very nice looking card. People who dislike the 207s on aesthetics dislike the brown and tan colors but they have a certain "moody" quality about them which is very appealing when the card is in nice shape. (My 2 cents worth)

Posted By: <b>runscott</b><p>Some of the t207's are really cool, though I can see why many collectors don't like the set as a whole. I especially like the McGraw and some of the catcher cards. The thing that detracts most from the set in my view, is not the moodiness caused by the brown background and lack of color variety, but rather how ugly they look when registration is not dead-perfect. Cards such as Johnson and Reulbach looks particularly ghastly when not registered perfectly, since the likenesses aren't close to reality to begin with.<br><br>

I have been buying a few high grade hall of Famers here and there and they seem to be gaining momentum....I bought PSA 7 Tinker last year on e-bay for $190.00 and was surprised to see opne sell for $500 about six months ago.

Weaver broke in with Yorke in 1910, joined San Francisco in 1911 and here he is now a big league regular after 3 seasons of play. He is of the fast, shifty type of infielder and a steady, while not a star, batsman. With Frisco Weaver hit .282 and fielded .898. They never catch him with that eternal smile wiped off. <BR><BR>I really like the term "shifty" in there....otherwise, his 1911 card does capture his essence nicely....regards all<BR><BR><BR><BR><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1032646382.JPG">
