Ever had a seller back out of a 2nd chance offer?
 

I was the under-bidder on an auction and the seller offered me a second chance offer, which I took. I submitted my offer and I was wondering, can the seller back out once I've submitted the offer? I couldn't find anything online that could either confirm or deny my question, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has had experience with this.

I thought if the seller offered a second chance to underbidder it was at the underbidder's highest losing bid. I didn't know the underbidder could make an offer, if thats the case, the seller should have the right to back out if he doesn't like the offer.

I think the way he worded it left a little confusion. He says the seller sent him a second chance offer, but then said he submitted an offer. I think he meant to say he accepted the seller's offer.

Anyway, to the OP's question, I don't know why a seller couldn't back out of a second chance offer. There are threads here where sellers back out of eBay sales, so I don't think a second chance offer would be any different. I'm not saying that it's right (and I'll even say it's unethical), but what can you do really?

What should a seller do if the winner of an auction adviises he is backing out of the sale, for whatever reason, and the seller then offers the under bidder a second chance at their highest bid, and the underbidder accepts, but then the original winning bidder has a change or heart and pays for the item ?

A seller can always back out of an offer or deal by saying the card is lost or making up some other excuse, even if they're not supposed to. I am always suspicious of second chance offers and have never accepted one.

On eBay before the item is paid for you can cancel the transaction. If the buyer asks you can initiate the cancel transaction. After they accept the deal is null and you can offer it to whoever you would like.

I had close to this exact thing happen in the BST auction section on this forum. As soon as I received payment from the original buyer I PMed the other person. Told them that the original buyer sent payment and I would be sending them the card. Luckily that person understood and there was no problems, other than the original buyer taking over a week to pay by PayPal.

Mine was slightly different because the original buyer just never paid or responded to PMs for over a week.
