Posted By: jims
Hi Mike, I love large pennants and have about a dozen fairly old ones. But pennants are made to display and the wall space required to do that is their disadvantage. I do have probably one of the largest collections around of the small 1936-37 BF3 pennants, currently about 425 different ones. These I display in glass enclosed cases. I will try to post some pictures during the coming week.

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Mike: I just joined tonight, and this is my first post.

I think I might have the best vintage baseball pennant collection in the world... top 3 anyway. The collection spans from turn of the century to the late '60s. It stops at the point manufacturers felt the need to cheapen / mass-produce the artwork, make them stiff instead of soft, and include the MLB Logo. Until I can figure out how to display them on the floors or ceiling however, I have had to slow it down a bit. I had hoped to create some type of memorabilia museum someday, but am doubtful that enough people would actually appreciate.

Posted By: Mar Steinberg
Many thanks again to Greg and Keith for helping me figure out the picture posting procedure!

Here is a really fun Red Sox Pennant from the early '50s. For some reason, you NEVER see this variation. I have another that is similar... maybe better, but it is buried for now. They must have really under-produced this one at the time. I just don't understand why these never turn up. I would think that Sox fans would have loved this "Batting Sock" logo...

Probably made for Giants fans, as their mascot seems to be the primary focus. Too bad that Philly got the better of them in this one!

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Dan: I was just a kid in the late '60s when the pennant bug bit me. My Dad would typically buy me a Pennant for $1.00 each time we went to a Reds game at Crosley Field.

Then, in 1969, something terrible happened. The artistry disappeared, the pennants became stiff instead of soft, and the "powers that be" had to include the mass-produced MLB Logo on everything. It made me realize that pride of workmanship was something to be appreciated, and I have been building the vintage collection ever since.

Safe to say, it has become an obsession over the years. I would love to do a Coffee-table Book some day, and really feel (like many others) that memorabilia is way undervalued, compared to the more common cards.

I am so glad that many people on this site seem to love and appreciate the same things as me. Hope more people can continue to share their great pennants as well... thanks!!

Posted By: Greg Theberge
Mark, I thought that Boston pennant of yours looked familiar. It's actually pictured in a small BoSox memorabilia book Called Boston Red Sox Memories and Memorabilia of New England's Team by Chadwick and Spindel. It's a cute little book, but not one that goes into a lot of depth. In fact, they incorrectly label that pennant of yours from the 40s which it is obviously wrong. They also show the common red WS Champions pennant and the white 1915 Red Sox pennant as well as another 1912 "Red Sox American League Champions" pennant similar to mine, but with a batter, not a pitcher.

Keep those pennants coming.
