Book Recommendation

Posted By: Jay Miller
I received a book for Christmas which I would like to highly recommend. The book is called "A Fine Looking Lot of Ball-Tossers" and is written by Richard McBane. The book is about the 1881 Akron, OH team. It was the best "amateur" nine in the country with many players who later starred at the professional level. Two of the stars on the team were Bid McPhee and Tony Mullane. There is great background material on both of these players as well as box scores from all their 1881 games, many of which were played against NL teams.

Posted By: whycough
Baseball is blessed with a rich history of books to recall the ever-present history which builds upon the richest legacy in sports. One of the best of recent vintage (2003) is Baseball's Greatest Season: 1924 by Reed Browning. Return that ugly tie and invest in something (besides cards) to get you to opening day.

Posted By: zach
"Grand Old Game: 365 Days of Baseball" By Joseph Wallace.

One of the great books of baseball imo, about 5 inches tall and 10 inches long and hardbound this book is full of the best and greatest baseball photos. Each page is taken up completely by a different photo and the following page is a write up about it. From Mathewson to Josh Gibson they're all there. BTW, all of the photos are from the archives of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
