It's either very late in his career, or possibly even post-retirement, like when he coached for Brooklyn in 1938.

This is spring training '33. Looks to be after this. But before Brooklyn would be my guess. Would he wear the pinstripes then?

Not likely, I didn't pick up on that. His face and girth actually look like the early 1940s Ruth, would be interesting to know.

Most definitely. I just watched a clip of Babe v. Walter Johnson. 1942? It's somewhere around then. You're right.

Ruth is tough as his weight and look was always changing. I assume this is due to his lifestyle; excessive food, drink and exercise habits.
This is definitely not as old as indicated. It is from his playing days with the Yankees in the early 30s.
Attached is my type 1 photo by Thorne. Also attached is a 1934 Japanese bromide card.

I will guess it's from approximately 1934 :).

I have the same photo except it is an 8X10. It was signed in 1947. I either read somewhere or was told once many years ago that it was his "favorite" photo to sign…As to the date--would think mid-30's if I was to take a guess.

Thank you guys! I was thinking 30's too but wasnt sure. Mine is 5x7 and has the american service bureau stamp on the back
