Hey Jon, Did you win the '08 Pirate Vignette lot from the latest Hunt Auction?
(Nice pick ups BTW)

Jcfowler6 11-02-2017 11:11 AM

Thanks. No I was an underbidder on it. Would have liked those but with my pickups recently I had to hold back

I thought I had put in a good bid on them. Only really wanted the Gibson. Had to tap out early too.

I had posted these in REA thread but since I rec'd them yesterday, posting here too. I hope you don't mind. Last time I owned an e121 Ruth, I had 2 in nice condition. Sold them both for $500. And now, 25 years later - gulp!

A few Obaks. All but one of these previously resided in SGC 2,3, or 4 holders. They now look stellar in my binder. Love these things! I got distracted for a while, but I am back at the Obaks and am up to fifty something.

Great stuff Aaron! Love the E121!

This came today, lightning fast shipping from REA. Pretty excited about this one. Has anyone ever seen another? C. 1925-1926 RPPC. REA states it has never seen another and believes the man behind the automobile wheel to be Brother Matthias. From pictures I've seen it certainly is! Check out photo bellow I found, must have been taken same day and time of Ruth and Brother Matthias next to the automobile. The other player is Fred Merkle (smoking cigar) who was only with the Yankees those 2 years.

REA didn't name anyone else in the picture. Can anyone else confirm or have guesses as to other people in the image? Is the woman Helen Woodford Ruth? I believe it is but would like a bit more confirmation. I feel like the guy next to woman with open suit top and striped tie looks familiar but maybe not (possibly a player?)... Can anyone name the other priests, or confirm that this is likely in front of St. Marys Industrial School?

Also does anyone know of Brother Matthias being on any other card or postcard?

I've wanted a vintage photo or any type of collectible of Brother Matthias now for some time and think I may have just found one of, if not the top one!

The image quality is spectacular!

Other known pictures of Helen at bottom

Great haul, Aaron, the E125 Collins is one terrific card. Likewise, the Matty, who looks like he recently converted to the Jewish faith.

Went to the Shriner's show yesterday. Traded off some duplicates and picked up another T204 catcher. The card was misidentified by PSA as Jiggs (John) Donahue. The card is actually Patrick Donahue, who was John's brother, and he played for the Red Sox.

I bought a T204 Donahue in an SGC holder a few years ago, and the label also identified the player, incorrectly, as Jiggs. I notified SGC, and provided some corroboration to support my claim, and they reslabbed the card for free with a corrected label. Nice card, by the way... One of my favorite sets.

The Real Jimmy Stewart

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...RATTON_NEW.JPG

..these two probably represent most of Monty Stratton's "cards" ; I may have the complete Monty Stratton Master Set without even knowing it because I also have his 1933-1935 Worch Cigar on Page 1 or 2 of the "Worch Cigar Project" thread a few lines down ..
The 1937 Team Issue Picture Pack has some staple holes and a scrapbook backside ; the Burke 4 x 6 is almost flawless --I'll post a scan of the reverse of that one in my next entry ; the Burke guys need all that stuff from back there
..

November Pickups

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...IMMONS_NEW.JPG

..a 1934 Gold Medal Al Simmons ( finally , after 11 years of searches ) ,a 1939 Canadian V351 ( like USA R303A ) Flea Clifton (an upgrade ; the one I have is off-centered ) , an AZO postcard RPPC of a well-equipped catcher , looks turn of the century , and then the reverse of the Burke 4 X 6 Monty Stratton....can anyone familiar with equipment hone in on which years that older-feller catcher might be from ? The back is clean and unused , no ID at all , and I can't find a Studio logo anywhere on the front .

..

Beautiful copy of a very scarce pose. I find the card’s background very interesting. 1887 Boston players (and all other NL teams except New York) were photographed by Gray Studios. The backgrounds that Gray used we’re pretty consistent. However, off the top of my head I don’t remember another card with this background. Also, number “0440” was a relatively late addition to the “0” number series. Something unusual took place with this pose; I need to spend some time thinking about what was going on. Anyway, congratulations—great pickup.

Card in hand, now I can finally post this. I badly needed this back for my Evers back run, and its one hell of a tough card. Bryan thank you! Bryan (Jobu) and I met up in DC last night to make the swap, and it was great to meet, in person, a guy I have emailed and texted with for over a year but never actually spoken to. Maybe i will meet more Net54 peeps at Philly or Chantilly.

As an aside, with this T213-1 in hand -- first I have ever owned, I dont see how this is not a T206!

Hey Tony. I don't have much left, "only" the Drum, BL 460, and a Sov 350; you know, the easy ones. And I wouldn't mind a t213-3 and a -3 overprint, bc those are common....! My gut is aside from the Sov 350, my back run will remain with a few holes and I doubt I will ever fill all of them.
