Goodwin

I've been checking the http://www.goodwinandco.com/ site for the past week to see what they have in their current/upcoming auction. It was supposed open on the 3rd, then the 10th, then the 9th, now the 11th. Anybody know what's going on with the moving goalposts?

Leon 03-09-2017 10:02 AM

Since they decided this wasn't the place to advertise any longer, several months ago, I have kept up with them less. No idea....

edited to add, some nice cards in the currrent auction. I am sure I will be bidding...

I've been wondering about that also. I've been assuming that they've just been waiting for more consignments to come in, and perhaps some were still in the mail.

RedsFan1941 03-09-2017 05:19 PM

Does any one know about Love For The game's next auction? I thought it was scheduled for January. I sent an email last month but haven't got a reply. I see a banner ad for them so are they still in business?

BeanTown 03-09-2017 05:26 PM

LOTG is in April I believe as Al was on a long road trip collecting consignments recently. Goodwin got in late consignments, and had to make some last minute changes but I don't think it affects the start or end date.

Steve D 03-09-2017 05:53 PM

I've been looking for Goodwin's auction for a month. It was supposed to start in February, but they've pushed it back 4-5 times now. I don't know what's goin' on, but it has become agravating.

We are most definitely still in business!

We just launched a brand-new website a week ago, and are putting the finishing touches on our next auction, which should go live next week.

Decent chance that's true, but on the 8th it said we'd be able to bid on the 9th.

I'll agree page 1 is awsome. There's that E300 Cobb!! But after that, it's just more of the same stuff we always see...

talkinbaseball 03-11-2017 09:37 AM

Goodwin is open.

All I can pull up is the old site which only shows last year's Fall auction but nothing for current auction. When directed to the new site, there is some narrative about this year's Spring auction but no show and tell of what is available.. Any help much appreciated.

How are people replying what they are seeing then?

Based on those posts, I thought it was up, or at least up for viewing?

Bicem 03-11-2017 10:34 AM

Goodwin open.

LOTG next week.

:o Thought it was the Goodwin link I was clicking on. Guess I should read and not assume a LOTG link would not be added to a Goodwin post.

Al is savage.

How does SGC give this trimmed card a number grade? "Trust SGC"?

Just so PSA looks equally inept;

It's good to know that after a grader grades a card someone checks the grade for accuracy. What a joke! And people pay hundreds of thousands of dollars based on the number these guys place on a holder.

BeanTown 03-11-2017 04:26 PM

Maybe the submitter had the owner walk it through for fast processing.

A thread (like this one) pointing out an auction is probably just as good as advertising.

Leon 03-11-2017 05:35 PM

I would say getting your name in front of a lot of collectors every day is also good advertising. This thread will go to the second page eventually....and if I think any shenanigans are being played it will be locked. Advertisers get the benefit of the board more than non-advertisers, as it should be. Thanks for your participation too.

I'm with you, lock the shenanigan laden threads.

No idea what Leon charges for an ad, but seems awfully short sighted for a major auction not to pony up some $$ and get face time on the largest board of high end collectors on the Internet. Not only are their no banner ads but many folks will choose not to discuss auctions here that don't bother to advertise. Hard to believe its a smart business choice.

Leon 03-12-2017 08:35 AM

A banner ad on this site is $150 - $475 per month.

Browsing through the auction it seems many of the items have such high minimum bids you might as well call it a Buy it Now auction. Will be curious to see what happens with that Suparman piece, but starting bid 50k?

I agree- way high opening bids

Snapolit1 03-12-2017 12:07 PM

High minimim opening bids are a major turnoff. I know a hidden reserve might not be much different at the end of the day, but high openings just seem to kill an auction.

glchen 03-12-2017 02:09 PM

.

ullmandds 03-12-2017 04:50 PM

+1...high opening bids combined with seeing the same hige grade cards over and over and over is getting kinda old!!
