Tuesday Trivia: RBI machines
The Braves currently have 4 players with 85 RBIs or more with 18 games to go.
Which team had the most players with 100 RBIs in one season, and who were the players? |
I'm guessing one of the Gehrig/DiMaggio Yankees' teams.

Bill Dickey would likely be one of them. I don't know which year though...

One must be Lazzeri.
|
Correct!
Lazzeri had 109 RBIs. The last guy is pretty obscure, so I'll just give his name. In addition to Gehrig (152), Dimaggio (125), Lazzeri (109), and Dickey (107), George "Twinkletoes" Selkirk had 107 RBIs in 1936. The 1936 Yankees scored an absurd 1,065 Runs on the season, or just under 7 runs a game. This was the second most runs scored in a season in the 20th century--the most was 1,067 Runs by the 1931 Yankees. Over 20 teams have had 4 players amass 100 RBIs, most recently the 2021 Blue Jays with Teoscar Hernandez (116), Guerrero Jr. (111), Bo Bichette (102), and Marcus Semien (102). |
Braves should have 3 this year, with still some shot at 4 if Riley or Ozuna goes on a tear at the end of the season.
17 games remaining Olson - 128 Acuna - 97 Albies - 93 Riley - 85 Ozuna - 81 All five have 29+ homers too. What a lineup. |

I always get Selkirk mixed up with Stirnweiss. . |
Selkirk must have been very proud of the nickname twinkle toes.
|
The 1999 Yankees team had four but not five:
Tino - 105 Derek - 102 Bernie - 115 O'Neill - 110 |
Yankees have had 4 players 5 times: '27, '31, '32, '39 and '99 in addition to the 5 players in '36
