Uncatalogued issue?

I can't find these mentioned anywhere except recently in this forum. So, unless someone knows better, this may be an uncatalogued issue. In 1909, this set of supplements was distributed by the Minneapolis Tribune. No checklist is known to exist, obviously, so here is the complete roster of the 1909 Minneapolis Millers, a theoretical checklist. In capital letters are the names of the players known to exist.
NICK ALTROCK BRUNO BLOCK Otis Clymer JIMMY COLLINS (manager and third base) Orth Collins Gavvy Cravath RED DOWNS Bob Edmundson DR. WARREN GILL Tom Hughes BILL O'NEILL Frank Oberlin FRED OLMSTEAD ANDY OYLER Roy Patterson OLLIE PICKERING LEE QUILLEN JOSEPH RAPP Ed Wheeler IRV YOUNG Every player on the team except Joseph Rapp played in the major leagues at one time or another. Of particular note is Dr. Warren Gill, who failed to touch second base in Spetember of 1908. When Johnny Evers pointed this out to umpire Hank O'Day, O'Day responded that he had not seen it, and chose to do nothing. A few weeks later, he would make a different call in the case of Fred Merkle. These supplements measure 10 inches by 4.5 inches. Here are images of most of the known players. |
Nice group you have here. I wish I could have grabbed a few myself.

Willy Wilson
Marc,
Great group. Willy Wilson also played on the Millers in '08 and '09 so he should be on the theoretical checklist. Best, Scot |
I think Joseph Rapp absolutely played in the majors for Phillies and the Giants. He went by Goldie Rapp and even has a few strip cards and m-cards.

I do not think it is the same Joe Rapp as the "Goldie" Rapp who played with the Phillies. "Goldie" Rapp was 27 years old in 1921 so he would have only been 15 in 1909.

Rapp
A website devoted to the Millers states Rapp was the only one who did not play in the majors. That was my source. Obviously, a good researcher - which I am not - would have verified the statement. Scot, you are right, I omitted Willy Wilson.

While Goldie Rapp's name was also Joseph, he did not play for the Millers and as noted was only 15 in 1909. Baseball reference lists a separate Joseph Rapp as having played as a catcher only one season, in 1909 for Minneapolis.

But Goldie Rapp did play on the other side of the river with the St. Paul Saints :D
|
Very cool cards. My great great uncle played for the Saints in the late teens and 20's.Went on to play for the Yankees in 1921. Love the old stuff!

neat supplements...wish I could help with some info but don't know anything about them. regards
|
Looks like Oyler and Collins are standing in a junk yard. :)
Am I safe to assume the backs are blank? |
Supplements
Yeah, I noticed that too. You would think they could do better than that.
Yes, at least all that I havemare blank backed. |

I will show the Rapp discussed in previous posts here
|
"Tip" O'Neil
I also think it's interesting that the O'Neil card is signed "Tip". Seems that someone other than the former Speaker of the House was nicknamed after the "Woodstock Wonder."
