It's football, but too nice not to share

Posted By: Keith
I was also a bidder, but got a little too high for me. I saw a very similar cabinet in a recent hunts internet auction. Could have been the identical one. I think that one was also a kansas cabinet

Posted By: davidcycleback
I'd say the price was a good deal, in particular as the player's name
and year was written on back.

For collectors, there's a lot of nice vintage football photos out there,
including college stuff and photos of folks like Red Grange and Bronco Nagurski.
Unlike baseball, college football was big time in the old days and many modern
collectors specialize in their favorite college team. If you have a early 1900s
cabinet of a Notre Dame, U of Michigan or Alamaba player in uniform, there will
be lots of interest in it.

Though the top football photos don't get near prices of top baseball photos (ala
Babe Ruth rookie, King Kelly Cabinet), there is a healthy amount of football
photo collectors.

Posted By: Rhys
To echo what has already been mentioned. A really rare 1892 cabinet photo of the first ever professional Football player, Pudge Heffelfinger, autographed on the back ended a few months ago on ebay. A similar item of rarity and historical significance in the baseball world would fetch easily 20K. Hammer price on that item was not even $1000. I kept scans of it for my records but will probably be kicking myself for years that I did not purchase it.
