For those who may have an interest in reading more about this:

I guess I just don't see the high end aspect of this product. Kris Bryant 1 / 1 auto. Ok, not really all that special since they're guaranteed. Mike Trout autos...alright, so a few hundred bucks? Where do you make up the 27K you're spending? Even if you got the Ruth or the George Washington, there's still about a 15K hole to climb out of.
|
Are there really 65 people that can and will drop 27k on this? I don't follow current card trends and manfactured scarcity is debatable at best for investment purposes but this just seems crazy to me.
Oh wait. Know I see you get a stainless steel briefcase with it too. Disregard my previous statements. Drew |

Here's how Topps celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1975, with retro MVP cards for each years. As a kid those cards got me interested in the 50s and 60s cards. They were a lot of fun and only 15 cents a pack. I would even rather have the brittle gum than the aluminum case.
|
Ridiculous. For 27K they should upgrade that polished aluminum POS for the Multi-Threat Shield bulletproof briefcase, and really protect those valuable cards  :

If one of these packs had a 5k price tag I would have felt it was over priced. For 27k they should have included some vintage buy backs. A chance to hit a 52 Mantle, 54 Aaron, etc. Like someone else said if you guaranteed me I would hit the Ruth cut auto I still think I would pass.
|
I'd be willingly to bet they sell out rather quickly, but I'd guess only a dozen or so would be opened by single collectors. The vast majority will be opened in group breaks, which even at single drafts or randoms would be less than $200 a spot. I could see base of the superstars going near that range especially near release. It's a gaudy price tag, but in the end we all collect pictures of baseball players so to each their own.
|
They really should just call it High End Redundancy Series 27 at this point.
|
Oh, I think they will sell out fairly quickly.
Last night's WS finale had at least 30 people seated behind the Cubs dugout who paid more than 10K each for a single ticket...of course, that experience has to have been WAY more valuable than anything that can fit in a single briefcase. The point being - there are still folks 'out there' who have money to burn and are very willing to spend it - and they live in their own version of reality and have their own set of values. We, the other, 99%, should be happy we are not so 'lucky'. |
C'mon guys, forget Ruth, there could be a Strasburg in there.
:D |

You guys are missing the point. I did too when I first saw it.
Topps is starting to shift toward breakers. This is geared toward breakers. 168 cards, plus a case, plus a ticket to a party = 170 spots. About $160 a spot. For $160 you can gamble that you get a 1/1 Bryant auto, or a sick cut auto. At WORST you get a replica sketch card #/65 - which, given the low numbering from a high dollar product, will still leave you with at least some kind of ROI, even if it's only $20. Plenty of people bring several hundred dollars to a poker table. This is that. Pure gambling. It's not intended for multiple people to break on their own and cover the price. |
Who wants to front the 27k for a net54 break? I'm in for a spot or two.
|
Should be a utter and complete bust.
|
Anyone want to start a raffle?
