"East Coast National" White Plains NY

Thinking about driving to this show - wondering if anyone has been there before. I understand it cant be as good as the national, however i couldnt attend that this year so i was hoping this was a good enough consolation

Any input would be greatly appreciated - wondering if it is worth a 2 1/2 hour drive

Looking for pre-war cards and any other memorabilia that cathes my eye

Thanks

I enjoy the show, but then I live 10 minutes from the Westchester County Center. It does provide a good annual opportunity to drop off bulk grading submissions without having to pay for shipping one way. I would recommend making the trip, if you can; but, keep your expectations medium-low and you will not be disappointed.

LOTG will be set up there this time around, accepting consignments for the Fall catalog auction. I did the show for the first time in the spring, and had a great time. Looking forward to doing it again.

I haven't been in years -- used to be great, but I think there are far fewer tables now. I will finally be going again next week -- really looking forward to it.

Didn't find too much last year. Hopefully will be there this year. It was nice to meet net54 members.

CrazyDiamond 08-06-2014 10:52 AM

I am looking forward to it as well. Havent been to a show in a while -

i have never been to this show but i figured for it to be called the "east Coast National" it should be better then average

It is meaningfully larger and more widely attended than their every-other-monthly shows.

I work in Westchester and I attend the show regularly. It's a decent time, but don't expect to find any deals. Many dealers setup in the same spot with the same exact inventory each go 'round. The show is heavy on 50s and 60s, autographs, etc. It's nice to see the Auction houses displaying their wares for upcoming events, and there are lots of interesting folks to speak with. As for vintage, there is a solid core of dealers who are strong in your common vintage sets (T206, T3, T205) - Good luck looking for obscure items...There are none to be found (as opposed to THE National, where all sorts of treasures abound).

Parking can be a pain (welcome to Westchester), and do park in designated areas - local cops WILL ticket you. Food is blase run-of-the-mill convention food (hot dogs, greasy fries, etc.).

I go looking to speak with people and enjoy a "card show". I don't expect to buy much (even though I'm hoping to do so) and I don't expect to run into many deals. As such, I normally leave as a happy camper.

So it seems like it could be worth the trip. Really looking to buy a few cards and just like you said, "enjoy a card show." I have the day off work so why not!

Thanks all

Some of the nicer cards I've pulled out of the Westchester County Center in recent years include:

Gets weaker every year. As someone said, same people with same cards for years running--more a museum exhibit then attempt to sell cards, unless you want to pay well above eBay prices.

Years ago the show took up both rooms -- upstairs and downstairs -- is that still the case? If not, is it upstairs on the main sports floor, or downstairs?

East Coast National

I will be set up at the East Coast National. This is my first show there in years. I promise to have plenty of pre-1920 vintage. Please stop by and say hello!

Arcadekrazy,

I promise to have plenty of obscure items!

I typically do the National each year, but could not make it this year. As stated, I am doing the East Coast National & will bring an abundance of vintage stuff!

I attend virtually all the shows at White Plains and enjoy simply spending an afternoon walking around. The shows are definitely not as good as they once were but still a decent assortment of pre and post war. If you have the intention of buying anything, be prepared to pay up significantly.

refz 08-06-2014 07:51 PM

I'll be attending most likely saturday. This show is hit or miss no doubt about it. Ive picked up some good things here and other times like stated earlier just dropped bulk off to grade or got an autograph. I will have my net54 shirt on say hi :)

kamikidEFFL 08-06-2014 08:04 PM

I remember the show being great but heard it's gone down hill. Door prizes of like $5000 in show bucks were always cool but don't know if they do stuff like that now. I am looking forward to October show at the Shriners in Wilmington,MA seems to always be pretty sweet in the fall. Spring show in Wilmington is usually decent but hey few months for myself to start saving. Anyway, if you do go take some photos and videos if you can show the show and what it's like now.

refz 08-06-2014 08:16 PM

Raffle isnt anything exciting.

bbsports 08-06-2014 08:24 PM

This will be be my 4th year of setting up for all you T206 collectors. I added a few surprises for sale this year. A lot of the net54 collectors came to see me last year at my table. Looking forward to seeing all of you again this year as well.

I'll be there Saturday mostly to drop off cards for grading and autographs for authentication. But I'll have a goodie bag of stuff I'll be trying to trade or sell. I don't think I've bought anything at a White Plains show in at least 5 years but I always have a good time walking the room.

Rich Klein 08-07-2014 07:28 PM

I know it's 25+ years since I last did this show and 15+ years since I last attended but there used to be decent food places within walking distance of the show (Deli, Pizza Place and Small Diner back in the day) and so if you are not married to staying at the show. at least the food options are decent as a customer

Let's saw you are from the Albany area -- which is about 2.5 hours away from this show, and yes that would be worth the day trip.

Rich
