2009 Strongsville Show Summary

Posted By: Paul Fusco
From my perspective as the promoter of the show. The material in the room was much stronger than last years with much pre-war offerings as well as well loads of 1940-1970 vintage material. The mood was upbeat both amongst dealers and collectors. The foot traffic was down at least 40% from last year. A sure sign that the failing ecomony is begging to make an impact, at least at this show. The good news however is that the 1000+ folks that did show up were avidly buying, trading, consigning and submitting items for authentication and grading. Having Brian from SGC at the show was a big plus. Most of the dealers went home at the least satisified to very glad of the weekends outcome. A few were dissapointed with their sales but indicated that they will be back. The dates for next years Ohio Sports Collectors Convention is April 16-18th at the Strongsville Holiday Inn. I want to personally thank all of you that attended the convention in one capacity or another. Cleveland is a great sports collecting area and with your continued support, we will endeavor to keep this great vintage show not only running once a year but make it better, each and every year to come. See you all at the national. Stop by our booth and introduce yourself if we haven't met before.

2009 Strongsville Show Summary

Posted By: Jantz

I attended the show on Friday and felt it was worth the hour drive to the show. There certainly was a large variety of cards & memorabilia to cover all the different venues of sports collecting.

As far as disappointed dealers, well maybe some of them need to brush up on their customer service skills. I say this because one dealer was extremely rude when I inquired about a T206 back. Then the same dealer, an hour later, interupted the conversation Brian(of SGC) & I were having by shoving a card into Brian's face and asking him what the card would grade. No big deal though. Dealer rudeness = zero sales from me.

Speaking of Brian Dwyer of SGC, I had a great experience talking to Brian and made my first submission ever to an authenticating company. Brian treated me like a person, not a customer. That stands out the most with me.

I had a good time at the show, met with a few Net54 members and picked up a couple cards for my collection. Hope the show stays around. Thanks Paul.

Jantz
