That's awesome!

Some of the more vintage among my recent Yaz additions:

Got my own 74 Topps Stamps panel. I think I'm going to separate the single though.

Very excited about this addition. The Peel Offs have DREADFUL centering problems. While not perfectly centered, it's hard to find one with this much white space on all 4 sides.

Your right; the peel-offs really do tend to be all over the place in regard to centering. You instruction back example looks great to me. Do you already have the blank back example? I have both examples of Brooks Robinson, but I picked them up years and years ago when most people didn't even think about centering (at least I didn't).

Unsure if you collect proofs, but several years ago I picked up some Brooks progressive proofs (color separations) of the peel offs. For some reason, unknown to me, I really like the proof stuff. Probably will be worth little to most others, but I like 'em.

DBesse27 05-08-2016 02:36 PM

No, I don't have the blank back yet, but I will eventually. I do collect proofs here and there and the peel off proofs sound awesome! I'd like to see your Brooksie proofs.

Not the greatest picture of the proofs, but I think you can get a pretty good idea what they look like.

Extremely cool!!

Now let's find the proofs of the Yaz peel-offs!

What's kinda interesting to me is that notice how Brooks' bill of his hat is cut off in the front and they rounded the back of his hat for the blue egg shaped border on the proofs. Then on the complete peel-off they must have air brushed the front bill and added some to the back of the hat as well.

Alright, back to Yaz. Since you posted a picture of the stamp panel here's one that will likely stay intact (sorry Brooks is pictured "again" :D).

Got a helluva deal on this 65 Topps and it arrived in the mail today. Thanks! I actually prefer this over most of the basic set, because the photo is so unique. Almost every other basic issue is a head shot or a batting stance. The 65T is definitely different.

This card leaves me 1 card shy of completing the 60's portion of the PSA basic set. Then I need 1 new and 1 upgrade to finish the 70's and the 1980 Topps and 81 Donruss I just added leave me needing 2 new to finish the 80's. Below is my wish list, the only cards I need before I consider my 34-card basic set complete:

1963 Topps #115 in PSA 7
1971 Topps #530 in PSA 7.5 or 8
1973 Topps #245 in PSA 8
1982 Topps #650 in PSA 9
1984 Fleer #412 in PSA 10

If you have any of those for sale or trade, please let me know. Thanks!

Dan, I agree with you on this card. 1965 is the first set that I collected (I was 8 at the time). The Yaz was my favorite card in the set. I loved that pose. Of course at that time I thought it was a real action shot.

I pick up Yaz stuff all the time, but I restrict my posts in this forum to pre-1980, and only items that I'm excited about. Very happy about these:

the 'stache 07-20-2016 07:52 AM

I don't have anything rare or really interesting, as I've just barely started working on my vintage collection. But I've always loved Yaz. I'm Irish Catholic, and 1/4 Polish. So, it should be no surprise that I have an affinity for the Sox, and Yastrzemski. If my Dad hadn't changed the family name, I'd have been writing/typing Grzegorzewski all my life. I get tired just thinking about it. :D

I do have a fairly nice ungraded version of my favorite Yaz card, his '75 Topps. I'll pick up a PSA graded one. But for now, I'm happy.

I like that this Super isn't miscut at the top. Most of you probably know that at least 80% of the copies of this card show part of another card. The 3 cards below are from a pretty scarce Boston Globe set and are very low pop.

I don't have too much in the way of Yaz, but of what I do have, these two are my favorites, especially the 1963 panel.

DBesse27 07-31-2016 04:14 PM

Man, Mike, both panels are great but that first one is crazy! 3 HOFers, plus Maris and Minoso!

DBesse27 08-10-2016 08:58 PM

Got this back recently from a PSA sub. One of 4 Venz Yaz cards in the collection:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...kers%20PSA.jpg

Today I got back the card below. I now am only one card away from completing the basic Topps run. If anybody has an 82 Topps PSA 9 they're willing to sell, I'd appreciate it.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/.../73T%20Yaz.jpg

DBesse27 09-12-2016 07:22 PM

Here is a transparency slide of Yaz, from 1968, produced by MLB for use in TV broadcasts. I have seen a few of these over the years, but this is the oldest one I've ever seen. This one wouldn't scan well, so I stole the seller's photo:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...ide%201968.jpg

I was also able to pick up similar slides for 2 of my football player collections too.

quitcrab 09-13-2016 03:34 AM

off topic....Was watching my local long island news..story about a cemetery in Southampton NY that vandals tipped over tombstones. I saw a Yastrzemski grave in the background (untouched). News 12 long island aired the story and it can probably be viewed online.

Recent raw pickups:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...0lee%20Yaz.jpg

1979-83 Coral Lee postcards. PSA grades the set, and has graded another Yaz from the set (#15C), but has never graded this single. I bought a lot of 15 of them and these were the nicest 2, already mailed to PSA. If the photo looks familiar, you might have seen this photo I have, signed by President Carter:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...er%20photo.jpg

I'd like to have Yaz sign it too, but that's an expensive proposition. Then I got some graded Yaz cards in the mail yesterday:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...mini%20205.jpg

Never liked this card much, but this is a really nice copy, without PD's and registration issues I almost always see on this card.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...tess%20Yaz.jpg

I love really well done hand-cut cards, happy with this one

DBesse27 10-10-2016 07:08 PM

I know I do most of the posting in this thread, but I really hope others will post cool Yaz items as well. Here are my latest pre-1980 Yaz additions:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...AS%20front.jpg
http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...0AS%20back.jpg

This checks boxes both for my Yaz collection and my 68 Venz set. This is my 5th Venz Yaz card, but my first one that's a "solo" card, without other players on it. Pretty rough, but happy to have it. Only 5 graded higher. Some paper loss on back, but not enough to obscure his face. I'm chipping away at a couple of the subsets within my 68 Venz registry. There are 7 Yaz cards in the set and I now have 3/7. And there are 10 All Star cards and I now have 3/10.

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...az%20front.jpghttp://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...Yaz%20back.jpg

1976 MSA Red Barn disc. Everything I've read about the MSA discs (mostly in this forum) says the Red Barn one is the scarcest. PSA has only graded 7 copies of this disc. There are 2 variations: one with the Kenosha address on the back and one with no address on back. This one obviously has the Kenosha address.

I detest the Red Sox and especially the 1970s players who fought it out with my Yankees, but the 1973 Topps Yaz is part of one of my favorite Simpsons memes "when he had the big sideburns":

Finally got around to scanning my cards from a recent Yaz private signing

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...0RC%20auto.jpg

For sentimental reasons, this card becomes the #1 card in my collection, and the last one I would ever part with. Christmas 2011 we didn't have any money, but my then-wife and kids, knowing I'd always dreamed of owning a Yaz RC, bought this card for me. Tons of sentimental value. Later it landed in a PSA 2 holder and there I thought it would stay, but I cracked it out to get it signed. Very, very happy with this one!

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...%20Yaz%202.jpg

And this one is not only for my Yaz collection, but for my 74 Topps Sox team set too. It was a PSA 8 crackout. The Yaz makes 8 autos in my team set and I'm waiting to get back a Cepeda from a private signing that will make it 9.

I got one Yaz card signed for each of my sons as well and they selected which ones from their personal collections. One went with a Diamond King and the other with a 66 Topps. Both look great.

EDIT: Also didn't PSA screw up? That is a 1970 Scratch Off Yaz card.

DBesse27 12-27-2016 03:06 PM

No that's a 71 scratch off. That's why I showed the back. They issued them in 70 and 71. 70 has a white border on back, 71 has a red border on back. The 71's are much harder to find, hence I'm happy with a PSA 3.

Thank you for the clarification Dan. I had never seen a 71 and somehow missed the red on the back.

Never knew about the color differences on the back of the Scratch Offs. I checked my Yaz and his is white, but I found these 8 red backs, including 4 HOF'ers…

Awesome rare Yaz items!

DBesse27 01-04-2017 11:14 AM

Here are 2 Yaz items that arrived yesterday:

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...rs%20front.jpg

This nice OPC was bought from Tom Salems, OPCBaseball.com

http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...0A%20front.jpghttp://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...20A%20back.jpg

There are 2 variations of this checklist. I already had both in PSA slabs, but this one is a huge upgrade, from a 5 to a PSA 8.5 !

1967 was the best year of Yaz's career, so he's featured prominently in the 1968 sets. Just counting the base sets of Topps products (Topps, OPC, Venz) he has 20 cards. This doesn't include inserts or test issues. I recently decided to make those twenty 1968 cards a sub-project for me. Here is where I currently stand, in term of PSA hollered copies:

OPC = 1/5
Topps = 5.5/8 (still want to upgrade the other CL version)
Venz = 3/7

Total = 9.5/20

Hey Dan,
Not sure if you are aware, but there are actually at least 4 different versions of the 1968 Yaz checklist.

The two cards on the left have the same backs (with the inclusion of the word "GAME"). But the round pictures are cropped differently. The top card shows a good amount of the 'B' on his hat cropped off and a sliver of his bat (at lower right) is visible. The bottom card has a much more fuller 'B' and the bat is unseen.
