That was the worst throw I've ever seen. I would have booed.

I think the throw was pretty good. I hope I can walk by the time I am 98.

Would have been a low strike to a squirrel! At least she caught the plate. Not bad at 98. Hope I am around to do something similar...at any age.

Give me a break, at 98 that was a good throw. Just hope you live that long :o

It wasn't a "good throw" in any sense. They should have had her drop the ball into the catcher's glove so it wouldn't have looked so ridiculous. People would have cheered and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Actually DB if you have ever played baseball then that throw was a fine throw in the sense that it was straight and right to the person it was intended to go to.

When a 3B bounces a throw to the 1B, it is sometimes considered fine if it gets to the target any which way.

As a former infielder, I would have taken that throw from my 2B instead of some of the tosses I got over my head or into the outfield on double plays.

I liked that throw. Babe Ruth would have been proud.

Strange series of centennials/or near so throwing out first pitches in the last week. A couple days ago, a 103 year old did so in Baltimore only to be bested by a 108 year old later in the same day in Seattle. The last was alive when the Cubs won the series :) That's a lot of living, congratulations to them!

That ceremonial throw was classic just because, let alone someone who is 98 years old. I tip my hat to her!:p

I think its terrific that they have all these people who are over 100 years old throw out the first pitch. You are never too old to enjoy life.

I could understand people defending this woman if her dad was Ty Cobb or Toad Ramsey. But that just isn't the case. I stand by my harsh critique of her horrible throw.

Fitty Cent's was way worse.

Apparently the obvious escapes some posters. First, she is 98. So cut her some slack. WTF were you expecting, a Nolan Ryan type fastball? And, Babe Ruth wasn't some mediocre hack, but rather one of the all time BB greats. You could look it up, but I think he is in the HOF. :rolleyes:

Considering only about 1.5% of the US population lives past 85 years, I think it's great that all these folks are still able to get out to the ballpark! Let alone throw out the first pitch.

Why anyone would do anything but cheer/applaud/smile is something I hope I never understand.

If it makes you feel better, you are free to punch me all day long, Leon. I can take it. but there is something else you are overlooking. Babe Ruth literally CURSED Boston for nearly a century and some say the curse, despite the recent championships, is still on. Red Sox fans who cheered for that throw may as well have been cheering the spawn of Satan. If you are a Yankees fan and you want to cheer for that throw, fine. I would encourage everybody else to join me in a robust chorus of boos.

I think you really are missing the point here.

There are now rumors swirling that Julia Ruth Stevens actually has a cannon for an arm and that she purposely disrespected the fans of Boston by firing the ball right into the dirt. It's inexcusable.

I think her cannon arm failed her at around 95 or so.

I'm a believer in everyone throwing their age. She's 98, I want to see 98 on the gun.

I say the Sox should sign Ted Williams' daughter...I'd expect her to hit no less than .388.

A ceremonial first pitch has nothing to do with how good a person throws the ball. It's just an honor for someone who deserves the spotlight. Anybody who is related to Babe Ruth deserves the spotlight. Anybody who has anything to do with him deserves to toss that first pitch whether it's his daughter, dentist, lover or even his favorite bartender.

She found the plate, which is more than you can say for most of the pitchers the Sox have trotted out over the past few years.

While my critique of the Bambina's throw may have angered some, I would hope that folks understand I am a strong proponent of females in the baseball world.
