Question on 1974 Deckle Edge variations.

Currently, I have 3 Hank Aaron 1974 Deckle Edge cards - a normal gray back card, a gray back straight edge proof and a white back straight edge proof (still looking for the regular white back card) - pictures below. However, there is a white back proof on ebay that is different from mine. Mine has Hank's "signature" in white letters, but the one on ebay has blue letters. How many variations of this card are there? Is there a white back regular card with white letters? Variations can drive you nuts!

There is a Richie Allen progressive proof lot on Ebay that shows the signature as initially being white before the blue ink process. I don't believe there are any regular issue white signature variations.

1974 Deckle

I have done this set in gray and white back, and in proof form. Also have it on an uncut sheet and a couple of progressive proofs like Howie posted. Agree with Howie .

If you want to complicate your life you could go for all the different progressive Proof versions of the Aaron in both gray and white back. There are front and back differences galore :)

'74 Deckle

Robert,

Really, as far as I know, there are two versions of the regular 1974 Deckle, the grey back and the white back.

The next thing is how many different variations on the proof front can be quite a few. You can have the progressive proofs of both variations (who knows how many). I'm sure there's the transparency, match print photo, mask negatives, etc. Also, Al might part w/his uncut sheet w/Arron contained... it's a fun endeavor that's for sure. I'm in the same boat as you I'm missing the Brooks regular white back version.

Thanks! This reminds me why I don't actively pursue variations. I will buy a variation/proof/etc. if one becomes available at the right price, but I'm trying to focus mainly on the Aaron cards I need (along with HR tickets, signed items, various memorabilia, and so on).

Robert,

Yeah, don't get like me when you start searching and enjoy picking up more of the real odd-ball stuff like the production proofs, transparencies/negatives, match prints, etc. than you do the regular issued cards.
