Any free Photobucket alternatives?

(I'll state the usual disclaimer here) If this topic has already been handled before, I apologize…

I use a large amount of scans in my B/S/T listings, but now Photobucket has moved to a 'pay for play' format and all of my scans have been replaced with an 'image not found' type of graphic. It has totally screwed me.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a free alternative I could use that mirrors Photobucket?

To head off all of the contrarians, no, I won't simply pay Photobucket's price, even if it's relatively low. Just don't want to do it.

I signed up for imgur and it's relatively easy to use (could have much better/easier-to-use posting links for webpages like Net54), but when I replaced images here, the scans came across way too huge, basically twice the size of my Photobucket images done the same way. Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks!

I just take pics on my phone, upload them to my computer, and then download them on here. It's pretty easy.

JollyElm 07-07-2017 06:57 PM

My full page scans are way too large to upload that way. I use that method for other smaller things.

To be clear, I am looking for a website like Photobucket to use. A hosting site, I guess is the technical term. If anyone has a website recommendation, PLMK.

Go to imageevent.com and you can join for $24.95 a year. At that price you can upload 1,500 images to your new imageevent site. $64.95 gets you unlimited photo uploads. You can also try it free for 21 days with a 21 image upload limit. So what are you waiting for, join today!

Just a wild guess on my part, but could it be that the Bucket images had been automatically reduced in size when you posted them? And, images you scanned at the same resolution and placed elsewhere were not downsized, but posted at the original resolution, and thus come through much larger, as you say? Forgive me, I don't use web hosting sites, so don't really know what their practices are.

Strange as it sounds, just use Facebook.

Post images to your page and tag them as only being for you.

Then open the image, copy the URL and viola.

I like ImageShack pretty nice and easy to use for only $18 a year.

JollyElm 07-08-2017 05:00 PM

Hey, everybody, thank you so much for all the information!! I appreciate it!!

Right now, I'm going with Flickr, as it is ridiculously easy to upload the mountain of scans I have. Hopefully, grabbing up the links will prove to be easy as well.

On. Flickt you will want to enlarge image and then copy image address and then paste into the yellow rectangle thingy here on net54

Pretty happy with FlickR here. I use it to just upload pics of my collection but the site offers a ton of options/ideas for those that want to customize as well.

Totally free and no hiccups to date. :)

Still stewing and snarling over the inconvenience and waste of time caused by PhotoBucket's change-without-warning
from free service to pay (at insanely exorbitant cost) service. We've got our own Forum to maintain, so we had to make
a quick decision. Toyed with Imgur, ImageShack, Google, Facebook, and a few others, but went with Flickr.
Navigation there dreadfully non-intuitive, but works quite nicely once you figure it out.

If you're not in a rush to decide, here's a much longer list of possibilities for your photo hosting:

You guys should use Image Event.

I am in the same boat. I like Flikr. I just found Mediafire as well from people on another sports site.
https://www.mediafire.com/upgrade/?plan=pro
The basic plan is free with 10Gb of space and unlimited linking/sharing.
They are having a 50% sale for the upgrade plans.
Pro is $3.75 per month for 1tb of space and 20gb max size.

Every time I click on someone's Collector Focus, I get a "Threat Blocked" from Avast security.
Not sure exactly what the threat is but it continually pops up so there is something there?

Big Six 07-13-2017 05:02 PM

I know what you are referring to but have had no issues.

I have heard, on here, it's a false positive, (whatever that means, exactly?) but it's there when I open the link, then it appears again when I click on a section.

I have never had a problem either, other than it telling me to run a scan, and I've heard from others that use it, they also haven't had any issues.

mickey7mantle7 07-13-2017 07:46 PM

Look. It's quite simple.

I own NO computers. I use my phone for everything!

I take and upload pics with my phone and phone only.

I used photobucket for years...

I now use PostImage.org

MVSNYC 07-16-2017 07:01 AM

Jamie- for as long as I've been on N54, I simply upload images (see below- "manage attachments") from my computer.

If you want a site that actually displays your images well, and is enjoyable to look at, I feel it's well worth the $25 a year for an ImageEvent site. By the way, Photobucket sites look truly awful.

Here a link to my ImageEvent site: http://imageevent.com/ccmcnutt

I decided to do a quick tutorial here for people who don't want the extraneous text to show up with their scans.

Here's the scan that appears when you copy the default link info from flickr:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4312/...fabea72b_b.jpg1954bowmandodgers by Elms Hughes, on Flickr

If you look at the bottom right you will see hot links (in blue) to the title of the scan and the user info. To get rid of that verbiage, eliminate all the coding to the left and right of the parenthetical img's, and it will appear like so:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4312/...fabea72b_b.jpg

(I have to spell it out specifically here so the pics do not show up again. The parts in red bold refer to actual keys on your keyboard.)

The original link is:
LEFT BRACKETurl=https://flic.kr/p/WAGer4]LEFT BRACKETimg]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4312/35835876001_87fabea72b_b.jpgLEFT BRACKET/img]LEFT BRACKETurl=https://flic.kr/p/WAGer4]1954bowmandodgers by LEFT BRACKETurl=https://www.flickr.com/photos/152396242@N02/]Elms HughesLEFT BRACKET/url], on Flickr

The correct link, free of text, is now:
LEFT BRACKETimg]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4312/35835876001_87fabea72b_b.jpg[/imgRIGHT BRACKET

The info to the left of the img bracket and the info to the right of the /img bracket was deleted.

Wow! This got confusing real fast. Simply put, look for "img" and "/img" in your image coding when you post a picture. Leave the brackets that contain them and get rid of the text to the left of the former, and to the right of the latter. Hopefully that clears things up a little.

Jolly, a little off topic but do you know how to edit pics in order to place them where you want them?
I was able to delete my older Gil Coan card last night but was unsuccessful trying to place my updated card scan anywhere but at the beginning, as you will see in my FlickR link below. Not that it is a big deal, but because this card originally resided on the 3rd page, I'd like to place my updated version there as well.

toledo_mudhen 09-30-2017 11:16 AM

and another vote for Flickr - took me a minute to get used to it...but seems to do what I need

Hey Dale.
Click on your album to see the cards in question. Then look to the upper left and you'll see "Edit in Organizr." Click on that and there will be many options available in an "Arrange" pull down menu. That should solve your problem in a snap.

(This is on a Mac in the Safari browser.)

OsFan 09-30-2017 04:27 PM

Yup you can also choose which card you want to be the album cover.

Thanks, Jolly. I believe I went that route already but I will be sure to give it a try again as maybe I was doing something wrong?
(I use Google Chrome)
