Opinions on this Ed Mathews?

Yuck! I've never seen a Mathews that sloppy, as he had a nice auto IMO. I guess it could be real, but I sure wouldn't touch it.

Maybe I have to take back the "nice sig" comment, as here is my 8x10 I got at a show when I was around 10 (in 1985). He asked my name and was really pleasant, and then personalized the photo to me. At the time I wished he hadn't, but as I now know that I'm not selling my HOF autos, I wish I had more of the guys I got at shows in the 80s personalize the autos.
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...FT/Mathews.jpg I also got a ball that I traded away long ago, but I remember it having a nice, neat sig on it. I'll state again that the OP could be real, as an older sloppier version, but I still wouldn't touch it. |

I don't know if this will help. Here is a Mathews autograph I got in person back in the early 1990s and it is personalized to me.

Never saw such a sloppy Mathews. I don't like it.

Don't like it either

He's not a hard auto to get at a decent price. Would pass and pick up a nicer version. If in question don't take a risk

Looks to me like some kid wrote it, someone who had an idea of what Mathews' autograph looked like and tried to emulate it, wanting to impress his friends.
No real malicious intent. I don't think it is from a professional forger. Wow, what a title that is,,, professional forger. I hope they emblazon that on their tombstones :D. Make their families proud. |
Not sure we want to get into a discussion on amateur vs professional forgers. Though I have a Rickey Mantle signed softball courtesy of a colleague at work

Not to differ with the experts but to me it looks like a slapdash signed on the run item. Regardless I am happy with it. I bought the card for the type because the price was really good for a Mathews Bill and Bob PC.
